Great product: input bar codes into an application

Have a application, say a spreadsheet, on a Mac or PC and need to scan bar codes directly into it? This is a delightfully simple, very effective way to do it.

This app works best on a recent iPhone. It also works well on a recent iPad. However pointing the camera on the iPad is harder.

The scan sequence works like this: touch icon to connect with PC application, touch scan button, center bar code in scan area, scan is performed and beep and/or vibrate occurs. Touch scan button and scan another bar code or touch speech to text button or image to text button to input identifying text.

Speech to text also lets you type if you are in a very noisy environment.

This works well for inventory checks, asset management, etc.

With an iPhone 5 or 6 the scans are fast and easy. I did not find an unreadable code, either 1d or 2d.

Images converted to text quickly, and more reliably than in my experience with scan to text on a PC.

If you are a long way from the PC while you are scanning, you can keep track of where you are by looking at the "history". You can also choose to send a tab or a return between scans.

Setup was fast, but I have considerable experience with VNC, screen sharing, RDP, etc. Very simple to me.

My current understanding is that the connectivity between the iPhone and Mac or PC is Ethernet (wifi, 4G). I am looking at Bluetooth and using it for input to an iPad app. I'll update when I learn this.

I downloaded many barcode readers before I found this one. The best of the others shares barcodes with email. This does work with an iPad app, but is a lot of extra steps.

So if you want to directly input bar codes into a Mac or PC app with an iPhone, this is it, unless you want to use a laser scanner.
