Instagram is a simple way to capture and share the world’s moments. Follow your friends and family to see what they’re up to, and discover accounts from all over the world that are sharing things you love. Join the community of over 500 million people and express yourself by sharing all the moments of your day––the highlights and everything in between, too.
Use Instagram to:
* Post photos and videos you want to keep on your profile grid. Edit them with filters and creative tools and combine multiple clips into one video.
* Share multiple photos and videos (as many as you want!) to your story. Bring them to life with text and drawing tools. They disappear after 24 hours and won't appear on your profile grid or in feed.
* Go live to connect with your friends and followers right now. When you're done, live stories disappear.
* Send disappearing photos and videos, text messages and posts from your feed to groups and friends with Instagram Direct.
* Watch stories and live videos from the people you follow in a bar at the top of your feed.
* Discover stories, photos and videos you might like and follow new accounts on the Explore tab.
* Enable Handoff to switch between your Apple Watch and your iPhone.
What's New in Version v10.0.1
Introducing two more ways to share freely and in the moment.
•Disappearing Photos and Videos in Instagram Direct: Send disappearing photos and videos to friends and groups. Swipe right into the camera to capture, then tap the arrow to send it privately. These updates are available starting today.
•Live stories (coming soon!): Go live to connect with your friends and followers right now. When you're done, your live story disappears. Live stories will be rolling out in the coming weeks.
Convergence can be bad
Each social media platform is good for its own reasons. It's nice that Facebook filters what you see because it has a lot of different types of posts (photos, links, videos, quizzes, just plain status updates, etc) and a lot of them are repeats. And let's face it, a lot of the people we're friends with there are long lost friends we never took the time to unfriend or people we love but don't want to read every single, "It's finally sweater weather," post.
But to me, the nice thing about Instagram, the difference, is that it's all photos and for the most part completely unique photos. Two of my friends can be doing the same thing, at the same time, standing next to each other and instead of just reading on Facebook, "at the mall today" twice, I can see one post a photo of the two of them shopping and the other post a photo of the food court both with the caption "at the mall today" but the photos make those two posts unique.
On Instagram, I can see everything from everyone I follow. If the app adjusts what I see based on which photo has the most hashtags or whose photos I've liked most often in the past, I lose out on a huge number of unique posts.
Please DON't turn Instagram into Facebook and PLEASE CHANGE POST ORDER BACK TO CHRONOLOGICAL!!!
Once upon a time...
...This app used to be my favorite social media site. There have been many changes since I joined a few years ago. While many changes are positive, there is one in particular that I'm not fond of. I'm unsure if it's the acquisition of the app by Facebook (I'm pretty sure it is), but ever since, I have HATED the layout of the timeline. I understand wanting to make the app "smarter" and perhaps even more efficient in the eyes of the developers but I am CONSTANTLY missing out on posts from my closest friends. I preferred the CHRONOLOGICAL timeline because it was much easier to navigate than this new means of timeline/feed. I wouldn't have such a huge issue with this new means of displaying posts IF IT ACTUALLY REFRESHED ITSELF WHENEVER I REFRESH! Currently IT DOES NOT. 😡😡 If it does 'refresh,' by some miracle, it literally only shows two or three "new" posts near the top of the timeline. IT IS TERRIBLE! 😤 If I'm refreshing my feed, I've obviously ALREADY seen the posts the developers have took upon themselves to prioritize for me. 😒😒😒 So, as a result I don't use this app very often anymore.
Change it back. 😑🙄
A few suggestions
When I log in I don't want to see posts from 4 hours or 9 hours ago first, I don't even why that made sense to do that. It actually makes me less interested in interacting with the people I follow since there isn't anything current. IG doesn't need an ICYMI (in case you missed it) feature. ALSO, the explore page is trash most of the things suggested in the "We Think You Might Like This" section is nothing I would like, more over Oddly Satisfying is just a bunch of people scraping paint across a canvas, I find zero satisfaction in that & if I opt to see less like this I SEE MORE, which is why I'm even less interested now than I was before. Change is good, but don't ruin a good thing trying to keep up with everyone else.
The stories feature is a blatant rip from snapchat & it's not even impressive, I'm fine using multiple apps for different reasons. Ever since the logo change it's like every idea someone suggests is now implemented without a dry run to see if we would even care for it. The only thing I want from this app is for the posts to be put in chronological order on my timeline.
