Instagram is a simple way to capture and share the world’s moments. Follow your friends and family to see what they’re up to, and discover accounts from all over the world that are sharing things you love. Join the community of over 500 million people and express yourself by sharing all the moments of your day––the highlights and everything in between, too.

Use Instagram to:
• Post photos and videos you want to keep on your profile grid. Edit them with filters and creative tools, and combine multiple clips into one video.
• Share multiple photos and videos (as many as you want!) to your story. Bring them to life with text and drawing tools. They disappear after 24 hours and won't appear on your profile grid or in feed.
• Watch stories from the people you follow in a bar at the top of your feed. View them at your own pace.
• Discover photos and videos you might like and follow new accounts in the Explore tab.
• Send private messages, photos, videos and posts from your feed directly to friends with Instagram Direct.
• Instantly share your posts to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and other social networks.
• Use Handoff to switch between your Apple Watch and your iPhone.

What's New in Version 9.1

We have a few improvements to Instagram Stories!

• Zoom with one hand as you're recording a video. Slide your finger up while holding the video record button.
• Switch camera mode while recording a video. Double tap to flip between the front and back camera.
• Lots of bug fixes and improvements to make stories even better (and faster).

Introducing Instagram Stories, a new feature that lets you share all the moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile. As you share multiple photos and videos, they appear together in a slideshow format: your story.

• Share multiple photos and videos (as many as you want!) to your story. Bring them to life with text and drawing tools. They disappear after 24 hours and won't appear on your profile grid or in feed.
• Watch stories from people you follow in a bar at the top of your feed, from your best friends to your favorite popular accounts.
• View stories at your own pace: tap to go back and forward or swipe to jump to another person's story.
• Comment on someone's story by sending them a private message on Instagram Direct. Unlike regular posts, there are no likes or public comments.
• Your story follows the privacy settings of your account. Swipe up to check out who's seen each photo and video in your story. Hide your entire story from anyone you don't want to see it, even if they follow you.
• Feature a particular photo or video in your story by posting it on your profile.

Instagram Stories will be rolling out globally over the next few weeks.

Customer Reviews

Love it, but please bring back chronological order!

I love Instagram; it is my favorite app/social media site. However, I hate the fact that the news feed is not organized chronologically. It makes it SO easy to miss something. What's the point of using social media if you miss half of what's posted? Please consider bringing this feature back, or at least making it available as an option within the app. Also, please bring back the dark background when editing pictures to post. The white background is extremely distracting and bad for the eyes, especially when editing. Hope to see these changes soon, and thanks for considering.

Update: the latest update that changed the commenting format is very disappointing. What is going on with all of these nonsense chronological changes? Now I can't even see the most recent comments when I'm scrolling through my news feed. It just leaves it at one comment posted hours ago and doesn't show the newest comments. It seems like these new updates are just making the app less user friendly, and it's obvious that the developers are disregarding all of the user requests and complaints. Not a fan.

Update for the August 15th 2016 version: why does any picture seem more yellow/green between seeing it in your camera roll (through the app) and then selecting next? Seems like a glitch that really needs to be fixed because it's very annoying.

Hard on eyes, ordered by popularity

Update: with each change I dislike Instagram more and more. It's become too busy. I wish I had better ways to control what's on my explore page because there's so much borderline porn and no matter how many pictures I hide, the exact same picture will show up moments later. I don't like the auto play on videos on the explore page. Spam is ridiculous on here to the point I don't even use popular hashtags because of how much spam I would get.

What's worse is the timeline being according to popularity. I liked the option to get notified when someone posts and I set that option for some of the people I absolutely have to see but for the average user who may not be popular I don't like that I may never see their posts. Less people will see my posts now I'm sure. I used to be able to plan posts according to when most could see them, like peak hours because it was chronological. Now I have no idea if people are going to see my posts, which is important as a business owner using social media.

I used Instagram to promote my business but thankfully I have a website that is getting revamped because I don't plan on being on here very often. I deleted the app after one day of having the update and am not very interested in getting it again. I'll probably only download it to promote my website then won't be back on.

Watermark feature needed!

I love IG (prefer the old feed though). I love your filters and edit options. I love that I can share my photos from Instagram to other social media sites. I love that you are a family-safe app that does not allow certain images like Twitter allows. I love the versatile and updated features and functions.

However, my biggest issue is that I really need to add my personalized watermark image/motif to my photos, especially since I upload them to other social media platforms where they can be downloaded and stolen. Currently, I have to open another app to add a watermark, re-save the image, and then re-upload the image into Instagram. But when I do that, I lose the location data on my original photo. This is a major problem because I have traveled around the world and need those exact location tags to be accurate. Please add a watermark feature within the app!

As a side note, I would love to be able to search from among my photos via hashtags, just like I can search for other people's hashtags. A search option within one's own photo gallery would be a *wonderful* add-on feature so people can easily search through their own pictures to find the one they are looking for based on the hashtags.
