Description

Instagram is a simple way to capture and share the world’s moments. Follow your friends and family to see what they’re up to, and discover accounts from all over the world that are sharing things you love. Join the community of over 800 million people and express yourself by sharing all the moments of your day––the highlights and everything in between, too.

Use Instagram to:

* Post photos and videos you want to keep on your profile grid. Edit them with filters and creative tools and combine multiple clips into one video.
* Share multiple photos and videos (as many as you want!) to your story. Bring them to life with text and drawing tools. They disappear after 24 hours and won't appear on your profile grid or in feed.
* Go live to connect with your friends and followers right now. When you're done, live stories disappear.
* Send disappearing photos and videos, text messages and posts from your feed to groups and friends with Instagram Direct.
* Watch stories and live videos from the people you follow in a bar at the top of your feed.
* Discover stories, photos and videos you might like and follow new accounts on the Explore tab.
* Enable Handoff to switch between your Apple Watch and your iPhone.

Editors’ Notes

In the great big crowd of social media apps, Instagram continues to stand out for a reason: it makes sharing moments with everyone in your world easy, speedy, and fun. Whether you’re posting breathtaking vacation photos tweaked with one of dozens of cool image filters or a video clip of an insane concert, Instagram’s uncluttered accessibility has kept it at the top of the social-sharing heap.

Gotten better, but there’s still some annoyances.

We all know that Instagram is a great app...or it used to be. Changing the order of how posts show up on a user's profile has not only hurt content creators, it's forced users to physically visit a page or set up notifications for us to like our favorite blogger/photographer/whomever's content. It's frustrating. I am also growing tired of sponsored ads from shady companies (who have been stealing photos and videos from the original owners) about products and services I have no interest in, and it clogs up my feed. Instagram 'Stories' are a problem as well because 1) it's a blatant copy of Snapchat, and 2) it tracks your location (which I have no idea how it came about doing since I have Location Services for Instagram turned OFF). I am not pleased with how this once great app has now been destroyed. Listen to your users and get it together.

Updated: I’m happy to be seeing more content from other Instagrammers I follow instead of the same ones and then a ton of ads. The ad amount has decreased on my end, and now I have the ability to make them disappear if I don’t wish to see them. The only thing that is ruining my Instagram experience (besides the other issues I listed in my first review) is the autoplay of videos regarding sound. When I tap a video I want to really watch, either I have to tap the sound off after I finish or have loud audio frighten me as I’m scrolling through posts. Please give me back my option to choose.

Frustrating feed algorithm, and annoying unwanted notifications

yakru

Instagram is getting more and more like annoying Facebook (I’ve stopped using lately). The feed is just awful. There was a day when I had to scroll past 10 posts by one person who had posted for a period of several days and was not even the latest posts. I don’t know why Instagram thought I needed to see this persons posts. It almost made me want to unfollow him. The feed algorithm is just broken. I wish I could control if I wanted to just see things in chronological order. Why is this so hard??

Another annoyance are the notifications that I have no control over. Example: I get notifications for some accounts when they post. I really don’t care about these accounts but IG keeps forcing it on me. It’s hella annoying. It’s not like I’m not using IG that they’re so desperate for me to come back. I freaking use the app several times a day. So I don’t get why they’re so aggressive about it. Also these days I get notified if someone else comments on an image. And I don’t care what other people are saying if they’re not replying to my thread! Lastly, in the past few months they stopped notifying likes and comments in real time, and instead it is done in batches. This does not make sense.

Why are you tinkering with all these settings that just make the app more and more annoying? I’m happily using your product, but you are making me dislike it with every single update.
