Instagram is a simple way to capture and share the world’s moments. Follow your friends and family to see what they’re up to, and discover accounts from all over the world that are sharing things you love. Join the community of over 500 million people and express yourself by sharing all the moments of your day––the highlights and everything in between, too.
Use Instagram to:
• Post photos and videos you want to keep on your profile grid. Edit them with filters and creative tools, and combine multiple clips into one video.
• Share multiple photos and videos (as many as you want!) to your story. Bring them to life with text and drawing tools. They disappear after 24 hours and won't appear on your profile grid or in feed.
• Watch stories from the people you follow in a bar at the top of your feed. View them at your own pace.
• Discover photos and videos you might like and follow new accounts in the Explore tab.
• Send private messages, photos, videos and posts from your feed directly to friends with Instagram Direct.
• Instantly share your posts to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and other social networks.
• Use Handoff to switch between your Apple Watch and your iPhone.
What's New in Version 9.4
We have new features and improvements! Update to the latest version of the app to get them.
Drafts: Now you can save a post as a draft to revisit and share later. Tap to exit the share screen and select the Save Draft option.
◦Mute someone's story by tapping and holding their profile photo in the bar at the top of your feed. Once you mute a story, it will move to the end of the bar and it won't automatically play when you're watching stories.
◦Lots of bug fixes and improvements to make stories even better (and faster).
My hatred for Instagram is unfathomable
When this app first came out it was great. I started my most popular account, bees420, (im currently bees421) a little over one year ago. When I started it, I made it a joke, however throughout the life of that account, as I gained more followers, I started taking it seriously. I could communicate with people around the world that I had never met. I made friends with people from many different countries, and bonded with thousands of people. A few days ago, I reached 17,000 followers, the most I have ever gotten on any account. Later that day, when I went to post a picture, I received an error that I had been logged out. When I tried to log back in, I received the message that I had been disabled for being against the community guidelines. I wanted to know specifically what I did wrong, and learned that I was apparently "glorifying self harm", which is completely false. I made a new account to try to get my followers back, and through the help of my friends I gained about 600 followers, but the other 16,400 people have no idea where I went. When I saw what had happened I was shaking for 20 minutes, and I wanted to die. Instagram deleted my successful account for no reason, and later I learned that they were deleting other accounts unfairly as well. Instagram has been corrupted and is no longer a good app.
Let users choose if they want chronological or not
Not giving users a choice in whether or not to use the algorithm is a really bad decision. I understand that for whatever reason, you believe this algorithm makes it easier for users to not miss posts, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I miss so many more posts now than ever before. It may be useful for people who follow thousands of accounts but for people like myself, who only follow a couple hundred, I don't have a problem with seeing all of the accounts that I follow. The algorithm is severely flawed and is not even showing me the accounts I interact with the most. I only follow accounts that I want to see, therefore I don't need you to determine who I should see. I want to see them all and in chronological order. Instagram is unfortunately owned by Facebook, but at least Facebook allows users to choose for ourselves how we will view our news feed. Please address this situation soon. My interaction had decreased severely since going to this algorithm because I fear that if I like one account too much, the stupid algorithm will think that I only want to see that account. All users are not the same and it is unfortunate that Instagram can't see that. Add chronological back asap!
Worst year of Instagram
I love that you guys listen to your customer/user feedback. Going through all of these reviews, I've noticed that a good portion of them, including myself, are not happy with the new algorithm that has been implemented with the feed and the story feature (which is a lame ripoff of snapchat and doesn't make sense with the platform). You shouldn't even be trying to compete with snapchat because you guys are two completely different platforms. It's not like people are leaving instagram for snapchat. No. People use each app for different reasons. It's great that you guys are trying to add more to your platform and compete with other platforms, but please listen to the people who give you the opportunity in the first place. The least you could have done was make both of those features opt-out. I see what was trying to be done with the feed, but not all of us have a massive amount of people we follow and having our feed in chronological order doesn't make us miss anything in our feeds. I never had such a problem before the change and now I do.
Please give it some thought and give us at least an opt-out.
