Instagram is a simple way to capture and share the world’s moments. Follow your friends and family to see what they’re up to, and discover accounts from all over the world that are sharing things you love. Join the community of over 500 million people and express yourself by sharing all the moments of your day––the highlights and everything in between, too.
Use Instagram to:
* Post photos and videos you want to keep on your profile grid. Edit them with filters and creative tools and combine multiple clips into one video.
* Share multiple photos and videos (as many as you want!) to your story. Bring them to life with text and drawing tools. They disappear after 24 hours and won't appear on your profile grid or in feed.
* Go live to connect with your friends and followers right now. When you're done, live stories disappear.
* Send disappearing photos and videos, text messages and posts from your feed to groups and friends with Instagram Direct.
* Watch stories and live videos from the people you follow in a bar at the top of your feed.
* Discover stories, photos and videos you might like and follow new accounts on the Explore tab.
* Enable Handoff to switch between your Apple Watch and your iPhone.
What's New in Version 10.14
Bug fixes and performance improvements.
Decent but with annoying quirks
The comment function now has a send-as-message option that keeps overriding posting of a comment. The little grey bar that shows that the override is occurring is too subtle for my eyes to pick up while I'm typing and then looking for typos. My preference would be to discontinue the override function and make it so that the user selects the message button on the left or the comment button on the right with both buttons the same strong colour. Another option would be to at least make the override notification a stronger colour that that light grey.
Another new, unwelcome change is that when I enter the @ sign and start typing a name associated with an account or the account name itself, it nearly never shows up in the autofill option list. I don't know what algorithm y'all are using to select which accounts (if any) show up as users type both in comments and in posts, but it is not effective in the slightest. Also, when a user does actually show up in the autofill options and I select it, the subsequent text is 'eaten' by the # or @ selected. I don't know why that is, but it's proved problematic.
Lastly, as other reviewers have noted, the badge notification function doesn't function. I receive badges for the same notification several times in a row hours (sometimes a full day) after I've already checked my account. The delay and the repetition are a serious bother. I'll be turning them off until y'all make them properly responsive.
I'll admit, there are a few new things i like about instagram still. but i hate instagram live. i don't care nor need to see who is doing a live video and i don't need a push notification about it. edit my push notifications, you say? no problem. oh, but wait... I CANT! i have been trying to change my notification preferences for over a week and it always tells me it can't complete my request, try again in a moment. how long is a moment for you, instagram? please, let me know. also. why is it, if i go to answer a text message or answer a phone call, i lose my spot from where i scrolled to and my whole timeline refreshes from the beginning? is it not bad enough that you show me posts from 10hours ago on the top of my timeline, but now i have to scroll through it again just to see my friends' most recent posts? that is annoying, change the algorithm & back to showing the most recent first.
new update and i am STILL unable to change my push notification settings. please, fix this. i do not want to know every time someone goes "live" on instagram.
march 14 new update and still unable to change my push notification settings lol
march 20 new update. still unable to change my settings
march 27 new update. now i am able to at least get into my push notification settings. HOWEVER, when i try to change them, it doesn't let me. lol I can tap to turn a notification off and it will change back to on by itself. i am far from amused
Getting worse with every update
Below is the review I will keep posting with every update you force on us. LISTEN TO YOUR USERS INSTAGRAM!
FIX HOW LIKES APPEAR. It looks so stupid to see X, X, and 92 others like your photo instead of just 94 likes.
BRING BACK PHOTO MAPS. With the 9.2 update they completely disappeared from profiles. Very disappointing. The photo map is my favorite feature on instagram. Another issues with tagging location is that there are multiple options with multiple typos for the same location. Why not consolidate all these into the actual location spelled correctly?
BRING BACK CHRONOLOGICAL FEED. This new algorithm is an absolute mess. I miss posts from the most important people in my life because instagram has decided it knows what I would like to see. I follow 400+ friends and I am only seeing posts from the same 20 people over and over again.
I get multiple requests daily from pornographic profiles. The spam on instagram is extremely annoying. The app is not safe for children to use.
There are too many changes being brought to instagram. This was a platform that people had loved for over 5 years now. It was simple, easy to use, and fun. Now it has become overly complex and frustrating. The developers need to go back to the basics of what made this app so great and original.
