Instant Heart Rate is continuously rated as the world’s best mobile heart rate measurement app and is trusted by Stanford’s leading cardiologists for use in clinical trials.
* Place the tip of your index finger on the iPhone’s camera, and in a couple of seconds, your pulse will be shown!
* Instant Heart Rate detects a color change in your finger tip each time your heart beats and uses an advanced algorithm to show you your heart rate.
* A real-time chart will show you every heartbeat, similar to pulse oximeters used in hospitals.
Instant Heart Rate saves lives:
“On Sunday night, I was experiencing some unusual feelings. I knew that my body didn’t feel quite right. Quickly, I found out that I was in AFib with a heart rate of 193. I am writing this email from my hospital bed. I want to thank you for being an instrument in saving my life, literally.”

NOTE: Works best on iPhone 4/4S/5/5S/6 because it has flash. On iPhone 3GS and iPod touch the app has to be used in good lighting.
NOTE: Make sure that your fingertip completely covers the camera lens. Press gently, since pressing too hard reduces blood flow in your finger and it's harder to get a result. Make sure that your fingers are not cold. This app is for recreational and fitness use only!

Functional, but infuriating nag screen
Yes, it reads your heart rate. It’s quick (about 15 seconds) and accurate, it integrates with Apple’s Health app, it has a nice interface. I compared it to Cardiio, which seems to be the other serious contender for pulse monitoring, and IHR seems to be a little faster and quite a bit more tolerant of movement — Cardiio often complains about movement and has to start over, while IHR almost never does. Functionally, I have no problems with it.
However. This is a paid app. It’s well worth the cost, that’s fine. But once you’ve paid, the app should not be shoving nag screens in your face every five minutes! They advertise their other apps and upgrades so constantly and aggressively that I’m probably going back to Cardiio; it’s less functional, but much less obnoxious.
IHR guys, once you’ve told people about your other options 50 or 60 times, they’ve either got them, or they don’t want them. Yelling in our faces another 200 times is not going to sell any more of your things, it’s just going to make us avoid everything you do in the future.
Usable, practical, beneficial program
Have been using this app since I found it September last year on and off. Now I use it about 5 to 10 times daily to monitor my vitals. In association with my blood pressure monitor, I found this app to be accurate. I found this app to be useful in my daily routine and so dependable in synching with the Apple health app. I do have a problem with the Health app, in that I cannot erase an erroneous entry when I discard a reading. But in toto, this app is so dependable as a health monitor. Any way of reading my bp with the next upgrade? Of course by way of a mechanical pressure attachment. This is a great, dependable, usable and simple app. Thank you.
I have had an organ transplant this year and often have issues with rapid heart rate which means ER trip immediately per dr orders to be safe. I could feel my heart beating very hard and couldn't find my he monitor from a watch or my BP machine. I knew the App Store had to have something. This came up first. I got it, used it. Went to ER. Ended up with a dangerously high potassium and had to have emergency Meds administered to lower it. And I checked with the hospital monitor while I was there. This is accurate with a beat or two.
I let my transplant team know so they can pass the good info on through the hospital.
