Well done - and yields Results!
I used this app for about a month last winter and noticed a clear improvement in my ability to problem solve, stay focused on conversations, contribute insight clearly , etc. It is simple, elegant, and works. My only complaint is that I wanted the ability to change up the interface (colors, sounds, timing, pictures, etc) to avoid boredom. In my case, my discipline waned after a month or so and I used it less and less- finally stopping completely. The positive results wore off within a few weeks and I am now back to baseline. I realize the positives make it worth my effort to buckle down and start again, but the "same old" interface has gotten stale.
I feel smarter already.
Ever since reading the article in Wired Magazine about n-back tests increasing fluid intelligence in a controlled environment, I've been wanting to try one out. This developer did a fantastic job creating an app with just this test and it's fun, too. Great interface and a very nice progression through different testing levels. I wouldn't mind seeing volume control in a future update that didn't involve changing the ringer volume, though. If you're looking for something that might actually help develop your short-term memory (without using mnemonics) and problem-solving skills, I highly recommend this great little app.
Great, but needs update
This is a great app. It's stimulating and challenging. I've been using it on and off for years now, but that's kinda the problem. It hasn't been updated for the new iOS, so the results notification when you finish a game doesn't pop up anymore. Everything else seems to work fine, it even still records the results in your history, and scales the difficulty if you enable that option. It just needs an update.
Also, a few people have commented that they don't like how it gives you in game feedback on errors, but you can turn that off in the settings.
