The Ultimate Musicians' Phrase Trainer and Rehearsal Aid

NOTE: Please see the bottom of this description for important information about Apple Music playback.

Ever wish you could you could slow down music to hear a complex passage more clearly? Ever wish that slowing down a song didn't change its pitch so you could still play along? Ever wish you could loop over a small section of a track and practice it again and again until you get it just right?

iRehearse allows you to do all of this... and more...

iRehearse Plus is the extended version of our popular software phrase trainer, iRehearse. It has all of the core features that makes iRehearse great for practicing musicians, but we've added a mass of new features for the more demanding user.

Detailed View:
Zoom in on waveforms and really get to grips with that tricky section. Drop markers, make quick loop selections and toggle the loop countdown.

Change the pitch of a song:
Pitch shift a song without changing the tempo. Ideal if you need to tune a track to your instrument, or prevent the need to re-tune between tracks when rehearsing. Also allows you to play a song in open tuning that would normally require a capo.

Change the speed of a song:
Adjust the tempo of a song without changing the pitch. This allow you to practice that complex solo or riff at a slower speed without re-tuning your instrument. If you really want a challenge, you can even speed up the audio and play at twice the speed!

Export the song:
Now you can export the pitch and tempo adjusted track as an M4A for playback on your iPhone or iPod.

Loop a section of a song:
Mark up to five sections of the track to loop. Practice that tricky section again and again until it's perfect. Of course all pitch and tempo adjustments work on loops too.

Multiple Playlists:
Create as many playlists as you need and quickly switch between them using the Playlist Library.

Other Features:
Native Apple Silicon support.
Native Dark Mode support.
Full EQ with presets.
Stop band filter. Filter out an unwanted frequency band to help isolate sounds.
Drag and Drop from iTunes.
Apple Remote support. Use your remote to control iRehearse Plus.
Audio meta-data. See the track name, artist and album in the playlist.
Bypass individual, or all adjustments with a single click.
Redefine the main shortcut keys to match your favourite layout.
MacOS full screen support.
Search tracks within a playlist.
Waveform display.
Quickly jump forward or backwards a definable amount within a track.
Shuffle play.

NOTE: iRehearse Plus is unable to play tracks that are protected using DRM (digital rights management). DRM is specifically designed to prevent access to the raw audio sample data within the track (to prevent copying of the audio). iRehearse Plus requires access to this raw audio data in order to shift the pitch and tempo. Note that this includes Apple Music files that are streamed or downloaded using an Apple Music subscription. Music purchased from iTunes or ripped from your own CDs will playback in iRehearse Plus without issues.

What’s New

Version 1.5.1

Fixed a bug where iRehearse Plus 1.5 would close on startup for some Catalina users.

Markers!~

Nice app, very straightforward and powerful. However I give this app 4 stars because for how much it cost I think it is sloppy. The user interface leaves much to be desired. The marker tool is nice but cannot delete a marker individually?! Overall a great app, the best out here from what I have used but for $20.00 they should have polished it a little more.

Developer Response ,

Hi Pali, thanks for your feedback, we'll take it on board. Just a quick note that you can remove individual markers. First position the playhead on an existing marker. The easiest way is to use the jump to marker dropdown menu to select the marker you need. You will now notice the 'Add Marker' button becomes a 'Delete Marker' button. Also the 'Add Marker' option in the menu is now a 'Delete Current Marker' option. So simply position the playhead on a marker and click delete. This is the same way editors like Avid (and PT I believe) operate. The in-built help has more info on managing markers.

The interface is tricky as we need to be a cross between iTunes for playlist management and a simple DAW. This is why we introduced the 'Detailed View' tab, so the two functions are kept separate. We also kept the audio settings on the left to emulate Apple Pro apps (like Logic) and other DAWs. We're constant tweaking the layout and have lots of ideas in the pipeline.

Thanks for your review.

Do not buy this

Spent $20 on an this app that doesn’t work. I wish it did what it says it can do. Well - I’m sure it can - if you want to work on songs recorded before 1992. I have thousands of songs in my library….this app does not accept MP4’s nor songs protected by DRM. So if you think you can take a recently recorded song, run it through this app to learn a cool guitar lick - it’s not going to happen. Don’t waste your money. I’m searching for another app that will allow me to do what this one advertised that it CAN do. I shouldn’t have to use ANOTHER app to get the songs ready for THIS app to work. I have no idea what kind of music the other reviewers are using - maybe some they’ve recorded themselves - but you cannot take a recent song and use it in this app. False advertising.

Developer Response ,

Hello,

Sorry you are disappointed. We do offer a complete and free demo on our website and also make it clear that we can not play files containing DRM there. Please try contacting Apple directly for a refund.

iRehearse Plus can play recent tracks that you have purchased without problems. Also it can play anything you have ripped from your CDs. It's only files that are rented (i.e. from an Apple Music subscription) that contain DRM and therefore can not be played.

Unfortunately DRM prevents access to the raw data within an audio file, which iRehearse Plus requires in order to pitch and tempo shift the file. This includes tracks downloaded from Apple Music. We would love to be able to play DRM files, however it is understandably against App Store rules to sell an app that bypasses Apple's DRM protection, so we can not do so. No other app on the Apps Store will be able to do this either.

Note however that almost all tracks that you purchase today online are DRM free, including those from the iTunes store. So even modern tracks that you have purchased can be played within iRehearse Plus. Also any tracks that you have imported from your own CDs will work if they are in a supported format (including mp3 and m4a among others). We use the Apple Core Audio framework for payback, so support any unprotected format that is supported by Core Audio.

MP4 files are generally video files, which are unsupported by Core Audio. M4A files are the equivalent MPEG4 based audio files, which are fully compatible with iRehearse Plus. An M4P file however is a DRM protected audio file. Are you sure the files you were trying to play are not M4P audio files and not MP4 files? As mentioned, these DRMed files are not supported.

Great App for musicians

I love this app. I rated this app before and gave it five stars and now with all the new updates it is even better. WOW!! I have become more fimiliar with the workings of this apps features and it is great and has helped me and my band learn songs faster. We transpose songs on the fly and it makes it easier to learn the song, especially for our bass player.. If you want to learn songs or song parts fast this is the app to get. Well worth the price.
