Irish Fiddler

By Marion Roche Martin

This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.

Irish Fiddler is designed to enable Mairéad Hickey to coach children one on one as they learn to play Irish tunes on the fiddle. Although Irish Fiddler was initially developed with children in mind, it is an application that anybody with an interest in Irish fiddle playing, violin, céilí or celtic music will enjoy.
At just fifteen years old Mairéad Hickey has won eight all Ireland titles for her fiddle playing and is currently the holder of the National Concert Hall’s Musicians Award 2011. Inspired by the work of organisations such as Comhaltas, Music Generation and bands like U2 who have generously invested in music education programs in Ireland, Mairéad embraced the opportunity to do her part in helping promote traditional Irish music.
Join Mairéad as she helps to develop the next generation of great Irish musicians that will carry on the tradition.

Application Features

Kerry Polka, Maggie in the Woods, Britches Full of Stitches, The Miller of Glanmire, The Blackthorn Stick and Tobin's Favourite.

Each tune contains a listening lesson, tutorial, slow play through and bowing instruction and printed music

The application also includes a tutorial of how to transition from one tune to another so that the tunes can be played on a set or medley.

What's New in Version 2.0

Updated the App to allow additional content to be offered to the student. The new tunes are Miller of Glanmire, The Blackthorn Stick and Tobin's Favourite. Also performed some UI restructuring and fixes for a better user experience.

I can finally play something!

Been trying for years to learn some violin and never been able play anything that wasn't cringe worthy. This app walks you through the tunes slowly, starting with songs that only need two finger positions and gets you up to speed quickly but at a manageable pace. I can play fiddle tunes and people don't cringe! I love this app! Two suggestions: let the tunes play in an endless loop so it's easier to keep listening until you've got them drilled into your head as she suggests and more tunes!

Great, wish I could get music out of app though!

I would really like to be able to put the songs into itunes, so that I wasn't limited to listening to them through the app. I use the amazing slower downer app to adjust the speed of songs in itunes to learn to play them slowly and then gradually dial it up. Great app though, and she does do a good job of providing a fast speed and a slow speed. Also would like to be able to access music other than by airprint.

Mute button

I had the same problem with not having sound. For some reason I notice that the mute button gets clicked off when I download some apps. What is strange is that I still have sound, but not with the downloaded app. So, knowing this I clicked on the mute button and it worked. This is by the way, a great app...
