Ratings and Reviews
iRoll by default
I've tried a number of the other score-reading programs and while they each had some nice features, each one also had a defect that was, for me, a deal breaker. So iRoll wins by default.
Which is not to say it's bad - it's got some nice features and it's actually pretty good at doing what it does - but there are so many little annoyances, and things that could be much smoother and more convenient if they'd been thought it out better. (IMHO, of course)
**a few of the things I like**
Scrolling - iRoll offers three types of scroll-control: manual (useful), automatic (sometimes useful), and something they call "Roll by Measure" (I can't imagine how I'd ever use this).
Scroll adjustment - A quick flick of the finger moves the scrolling page and there's no "momentum" (i.e. the page won't continue to move after your finger has left the screen).
Dropbox integration - Handy.
**a few of the things I don't like**
Metronome - The integrated metronome looks like it has some nice features, but it can only be used in "Roll by Measue" mode so I've never used it.
Annotation - Getting symbols and freehand markups sized, colored, and positioned correctly is slow, tedious, and error prone.
Collection management - Each piece has a title and composer. I can search for either but I can only browse through the titles. I can't quickly see what composers are covered.
I roll music works well
I have imported a couple hundred songs. I'm excited that I have them all on my iPad ready to read and that it will scroll automatically. However, the import process and the setup of measures, repeats and scrolling are time-consuming and cumbersome. This is probably due more to the iOS file management, but any streamlining of the process would be appreciated.
The program is great. One issue and one "bug". Issue was that in the regular roll mode it will only roll for one pass. I play PDF music score with multiple pages and many times a simple roll is fine but the choir singe the song 2 or 3 times making the program useless.
The bus was that the program did, and still does, freeze and sometimes even reboots my ipad 3 when I am in the measure roll mode. This also makes it useless because it's not dependable. Guess I will go back to unto flip or masterdaelion.
