iSleep for Mac
By SOME Studio, LLC
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
Put your Mac to sleep using your iPhone/iPod Touch.
Have you ever wished you could put your Mac to sleep from across the room? iSleep can do that.
iSleep is a Green App. It helps you save electricity by putting your Mac to sleep when you are not using it.
Not recommended: Jokers and pranksters can put the Mac to sleep while their victim is using the computer.
NOTE: This app only works with Macintosh computers.
What's New in Version 1.0.1
Now compatible with Snow Leopard
Works, but not when screen saver is running.
Update: The sleep command isn't accepted when my Mac's screen saver is running. I would only use iSleep when I'm away from my Mac; and if I leave my Mac awake when I'm not sitting in front of it, its screen saver is running. Also, if my Mac is asleep, I have to quit and relaunch iSleep in order to "Forget all saved passwords."
Review from July 11, 2011:
This app works for me. However, I'd like to have an option not to store my Mac's password on my iPod touch because I think that's a security risk (I don't mind entering it every time I use iSleep). Currently I tap "Forget all saved passwords" after sleeping my Mac, which is just a bit inconvenient. Also it would be nice to have some cooler looking in-app graphics (or customizable graphics). The current graphics are a little unattractive, especially on a retina display.
This is almost what I was looking for, but not quite. The application does put my system to sleep when I tap on the screen. The only problem; it then wakes up again as soon as I quite the iSleep application. I think this is because my 27" iMac has the "Wake for network access" item checked under "Energy Saver" in System Preferences. The application needs a small modification to "nohup" the machine sleep command with a small delay so the socket connection for remote commands can be closed ***before*** the machine actually goes to sleep. I'm not 100% sure that would fix the problem I have, but think it would be worth a try. As it stands right now this application is just a toy. With a little more work it would be perfect.
A lazy man's dream.
This application's easy and straight to the point. Just set your Mac up for Remote Login and access you wireless network and you're done. Very nice, just wish there was an option to wake.
