Want to know your golf swing speed? [iPhone 3G, 4]

iSwingSpeed calculates the speed of your golf swing instantly. Golfers will find it easy and fun to use.

Once you launch iSwingSpeed, follow four easy steps to have your iPhone calculate your swing speed:

1. Place the iPhone flat on the ground at a distance of 27" or 6 iphone lengths behind the ball in the swing path of the club.
2. Point mic of iPhone towards golf ball.
3. Swing golf club and strike ball.
4. Read speed. Repeat step 3

iSwingSpeed is designed to display your swing speed after impact. That's it. You do not have to press any thing to activate it; it's always ready to display your swing speed.

iSwingSpeed uses the iPhone mic and its patent pending fundamentally-based logic to determine your club speed at impact.

If you are looking to enhance your golf game and better understand your swing, this app will be an excellent training tool. If you wish to know your half swing compared to your quarter swing, this app will help you learn that difference. It allows golfers to know their optimal swing speeds for various clubs so golfers can increase the distance on their shots or make better club selections in general.

Displays in MPH or KPH and can be used by right or left handed golfers.

Nice idea - not baked yet, though.

I tried this app in a couple of situations. First, hitting plastic balls indoors. Making sure it's 27" away (about an inch less than 6 iPhones) made it more accurate in this setting. However, it seems to be sensitive to the volume (audible "crack") of the club striking the ball. If, for instance, I hit a piece of cardboard with my driver instead of a ball, I would get a swing speed of 150.

I had my swing speed measured at Dick's Sporting Goods four days ago and know that it's consistently around 92. I did manage to get this to read 93 a couple of times, but got a lot more under-reads (79) than accurate reads.

When I went outside and hit from a tee, the same things occurred. I hit 7 balls. I got two 79's, two 83's, a 93, a 94 and a 148.

Clever idea. The science experiment was worth $1. But it doesn't work. If you're into science experiments, buy it, play with it and see if you can figure out how to make it consistent and then tell the author.

But if you're after a good swing speed measurement, this won't satisfy you.

Feel like my money was stolen

I bought this and the app won't even open. It locks up and forces itself to shut down.

Swing speed

Either this does not work or I have a really really slow swing speed
