iWalk, the fully customizable pedometer system for the iPhone or iPod Touch. You can set it for whatever situation you prefer, walking, running, wearing it on your hip, or even holding it in your hand. If you want, craft what is best for you, or go with our walking based defaults.

Some of the information the iWalk can provide you with is:
-Steps taken
-Time of session
-Distance walked
-Calories burned
-Bonus information on the configuration screen
-Caloric expenditure ranges
-Can change from US standard to Metric standard
-Can change stride from walking to running to sprinting

On top of necessary information (height, weight, age, gender) check out some of the other configurations the iWalk opens up to you.

-The Stride is the distance in feet from the heel of one foot to the heel of the other when a step is taken. This is calculated for you from your height with the assumption of a walking stride. You may need to double this number if running or sprinting.

-Sensitivity can range from 1.01 to 2.90 with a lower sensitivity allowing iWalk to count more steps with less movement. Lower this number if you keep your device in your pocket, or raise it if you strap it to your arm or hold it as you jog.

-Dynamic sensitivity is our algorithm that adjusts sensitivity to what you are doing. At the cost of losing the first few steps as the algorithm learns, it can figure out the situation. Move from running to walking without having to change or reset your configuration. The dynamic algorithm suits your needs.

No accelerometer based pedometer will give you a 100% accuracy, but we get you as close as possible.

To listen to your music while using iWalk, just start your music before running the applications.

iWalk does not run in the background, the application will have to be continuously running for it to work. There is a lock button so that you don't accidently stop or reset the application while you have it in some place like your pocket.

Great APP! Well worth the $1.99!

I have purchased inexpensive (<$5) and very expensive pedometers (>$50) in the past, and have returned all of them due to inaccuracy. For $1.99 this is the cheapest pedometer I have every purchased, and thanks to the ability to customize sensitivity and stride length it is also the most accurate pedometer I have ever owned. I have tested iWalk using 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 step trials. Results for the 4 trials were - 98, 505, 1035 and 5063. Results from my 2 mile dog walk this morning showed the distance as 1.895 miles. I did notice that positioning of the iPhone is important for accurate results. I have found that placing my iPhone in my front pocket with the top of the iPhone pointing towards the ground gives the best results. You can listen to your iPod while using iWalk. You need to setup a playlist, start iPod, start the playlist, then start iWalk. GREAT APP! Well worth the $1.99! Thanks!

fairly accurate but needs history to stop reset if alert or call interrupts the app

Followup after using for a week. I bought this and tested on a 2 mile walk this morning. The first mile I kept running into problems and nothing I tried fixed it. Then I realized that putting LCD display to sleep was the problem. Good: Configure with height and weight. Turn on app, click start, click unlock (to lock screen input), drop in pocket and it keeps accurate count of number of steps and good estimate of mileage. Bad: No history which makes it fragile and unusable if a calendar alert pops on your screen, or you receive a phone call, or text message alert, or ... Also resets if LCD put to sleep, and the LCD is biggest power hog so battery life is impacted when running this app. HOW TO USE IT: (assumes you've already configured it) 1. Put iPhone into Airplane mode 2. Tap on iWalk app 3. Tap on "Unlock" button to lock the LCD and ignore taps 4. Drop in pocket and start walking (DON'T CLICK POWER BUTTON TO PUT DISPLAY TO SLEEP) Now only an iCal alert will reset the step counter. This app needs a history setting to save counters when the app is interrupted by phone/text/alerts/etc.


there is no ipod or iphone application for pedometer that works so well and is close to as accurate as heartrate monitor needed to give approximate calories!..this is pretty accurate to actual stride in the dynamic mode.. and the locked position is great so you dont have to worry about resetting the application..good for me as I like to take long walks and not think about the pedometer..set and forget..this is a real first to be exact!!
