320x240 Res, 4:3 Ratio, 15 FPS
I bought this app with high hopes. It certainly works and I don't regret buying it for one second. However it does have some downsides. And I personally think this app could have a much better description. I bought it to try and use my iPhone 5 camera with Wirecast; a multi camera video broadcast/streaming program. iWebcamera has not updated their camera resolution to match that of iPhone 5 and up hardware. The camera currently connects at 4:3... Not 16:9. The resolution is 320x240. Which is QVGA quality. Folks reading this review I hope you understand how small 320x240 is... I believe it's less than half a megapixel. This app beautifully takes your 2010+ hardware back to the year 2003. This needs an overhaul badly. Also it's streaming over wifi is slightly delayed, which is expected and understandable... And is around 15fps. I would gladly pay $30-40 for this app if it was 16:9 ratio and provided higher resolutions such as 640×360, 854×480, 960×540, 1024×576, or 1280×720, etc. Oh and please add focus and exposure lock controls. And possibly automatic and manual white balance settings. 640x360 minimum resolution highly desired. I'm giving this 4 stars for now till I have time to use it more. I think the developer is on to something good.
A cheap HD webcam alternative!
For 5 dollars, I got an hd (at least I consider it as such) webcam that works flawlessly. I was hesitant at first because of the bad reviews, but the software worked for me and I haven't had any troubles other than the unnecessary window of the program popping up at random times, unable to be minimized/hidden. I'm running it on Windows 7 Home 64bit with absolutely no driver issues. I'd like to see a GUI with webcam options on my pc, possibly with filter effects or something. My only real complaints are the lack of microphone support (which I recall being a restriction by Apple), the seriously zoomed in box (They say it's because of the display ratio between the iPhone and pc is different) and the reflection of light off of shiny objects (in this case, my glasses). If a setting could be added to reduce this screen glare, I'd finally be able to sit in a normal position. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. I'd have been willing to spend up to $15 for a a product as well-made as simple and flawless as this one.
Don't believe the negatives…try it for yourself! A+++
Just installed this app on my phone and it works perfectly! I just bought a brand-new MacBook Pro and I use it closed up behind my big screen TV as my main machine so as you can imagine, I can't get at the built-in iSight camera in this setup. Thought this app sounded like the perfect solution and I was RIGHT! Works like a charm on my iPhone 4 with Skype and a few other webcam-centered applications I use on a daily basis. The picture is crisp, clear and the iPhone 4's camera does an awesome job of auto-focusing on my face without being overly annoying. I don't know if some people had problems in the past and there was a recent update or something, but it worked flawlessly for me. Well worth the $4.99 in my opinion particularly since it saved me the need to buy a Mac-compatible webcam which are few and far between not to mention EXPENSIVE.
