Great Content, but not a great app
Paul Pacult's reviews are authoritative and concise. He focuses on what the whiskey tastes like and skips the nonsense other reviewers use to pad their reviews. He is a true expert in the field and wears his knowledge lightly. He has pointed me in the right direction numerous times and I trust his judgement. The app is another story. If you are in the middle of a search and have to answer a phone call or message, the app seems to lose track of where it is and you end up back at the home page. The database appears to have been scrambled regarding Chivas 18, which happens to be one of Paul's favorites. The information is stuffed together with another Chivas product, which can be a little confusing. Some of the products have pictures, some have a generic drawing. I give it a 5 for content, a 3 for the app.
Simple to use with a huge selection of expressive reviews. I love going to my local grocery stores to check out their selections. I've learned so much that way and look forward to sampling more well priced five star whiskeys. The search function works great. Just start entering letters and the possible matches instantly appear. I like that you can bookmark your favorites. I also like that there are detailed instructions for making ten core whiskey based cocktails. On my wish list for future enhancements... searches by price range, searches by # of stars, additional cocktails, additional tutorials and a glossary. Whether you're a novice or an expert this is a great app to learn more. For an app it was a little expensive but I'm so happy I took a chance with it!
Been a great resource! Love the layout, excellent information and reviews. Wish there was a "try this whiskey" list in which you could make essentially a wish list that you could then access at the liquor store when you've found something on the app you'd really like to try. Also wish the photos for many of the whiskies would be updated with an actual photo; many, many, are left with a generic shot. Finally, the prices could be more accurately updated or at least disclaimed for inaccuracy. Many seem to be priced incorrectly by $20 to $30.
This is well worth the price paid, and am more than satisfied with the purchase.
