See why people love IXL
“Thanks to IXL, our students' performance has increased dramatically. Because they practice the skills daily, and because the site provides feedback, students are able to correct their mistakes and master the concepts easily.” - Waleska Batista, teacher, Cherry Hill, New Jersey, U.S.A.
“My favourite feature of IXL is that if you get a question wrong IXL will tell you how to solve it and what you did wrong. Another thing I really enjoy is that IXL provides awards and progress reports showing how you do over time. I think these two things are very effective because they make the student feel like they are actually studying and not wasting time.” - Student, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
“This program takes the frustration out of math because it allows the student to practice at his/her own pace and stay focused. It's okay if you mark one wrong because another one will be waiting. This is a great tool to have.” - Parent of a 4th grader, California, U.S.A.
“We like the rewards and certificates; our children work very hard to receive these! The reports are also brilliant in keeping us informed of the levels our children have reached and where they need extra help.” - Parent, Coolah, NSW, Australia
“My students are improving by the day, and some even stay in for recess to work on IXL!” - Helm Jackson, 5th grade teacher, Redmond, Washington, U.S.A.

Could have been more...
IXL has many worlds with a variety of difficulties, the side quest of collecting pictures is boring, as you need to go through the main quest to do it anyway. While their is some good enemy variety, the boss rush section is just the same enemies but a little harder. Your character can be anything from a fish to a soccer ball, which gives the world a wacky feel, but the lack of memorable locales don’t deliver on that wackyness that the characters give off. Lack of any memorable music tracks, and the level design is uncreative, just enemy after enemy. There isn’t any reward for beating levels, other than the pictures, you don’t get stronger or level up either, making the game just as slow at the end as it was in the beginning. The enemy variety offers good replay value for the levels. The game could be very forgiving telling you what you did wrong if you fail, and the harder difficulty you have, the more the game punishes you for failing but still teaches you that levels mechanics. Sometimes the levels were a great big slog, as eventually I didn’t feel like losing to the same enemies over and over, and if you fail too much in the boss rush section, you can be sent back to standard enemies, and go as far back as the beginning of the level, there isn’t any difficulty spikes, as the game is an open world, letting you choose your own path. Overall, IXL had a lot of promise that the developers didn’t deliver.
Ok, we have used this app for 3 years now. My child hates it. But, here’s why: it makes him work. This app doesn’t really ‘teach’. As the parent/educator, that work falls to you. What the app does is provide a progressive workbook like structure to practice the skills you are learning, be it possessive nouns or 2 digit multiplication. When you get an answer incorrect, it provides the correct answer and then goes on to explain the rule or principle behind reaching the correct answer. Then, and this is why I believe it has garnered ill will - it will make the student go back and practice more questions. Adaptive learning. The more you miss, the further back on the completion bar you go. Which a paper textbook can’t do. So yeah, if the child can slog through a subject he doesn’t understand fully and simply ‘move on’ to the next topic and forget about it - sure that would probably be easier. But, with this app, you can’t fake it. If my child begins to struggle and is slipping back, I know I need to stop the app, take a break, then provide further instruction before he tackles it again. The app is a great, no nonsense workhorse of an app. Mum approved! :-)
👋🏾Hi IXL Inc, this app is good! But it could be better.
To IXL Inc. Will not make sense to you if you do not have the app. If you want my recommendation, get the app.
What I don’t like about ixl is that it kicks you back so much points when you get one wrong. Thats not helping a kid. Thats almost like punishing one. Which is bad. Also plz make the explanations shorter, or at least pause the time when the kid is on the sorry incorrect page. Fix this on the app and website please. Also can you do limited questions? For example the activity has 8 questions, and if you get one wrong, you keep going and then you will get 7/8 but then you can redo. Kind of like challenges on social studies 🗺 🌎 and science 🧬 🧪 but it doesn't say “oh no, you didn't pass the challenge!” it just gives you the grade. Also please do challenges for math and language arts before you make the other changes, if you even read this. Thank you!!!! P.S. Can you make a package with all subjects, including spanish, with the price lower than if you were to get the 4 core subjects + spanish? Thx!!
