Editors’ Notes

We love BioWare for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and their other epic role-playing games, but this particular gem from their back catalog shines like a glorious green dragon. Infused with Chinese myth and populated by unforgettable characters, Jade Empire: Special Edition is a beautiful update of the classic action-RPG. The intuitive touch controls make it that much easier for us to get lost in its massive, martial-arts world of intrigue, adventure—and even a bit of romance.

Good port of fantastic Bioware epic

Soonerjbd

I never got to play Jade Empire on XBox, but the experience on iOS was exactly what you would expect from Bioware. It's also pay once and play, so no freemium nonsense. This game will feel familiar to anyone who played Knights of the Old Republic. The characters move similarly, the dialogue options and voice acting is similar (with some of the same voice cast). There are companions with storylines to unlock just like KOTOR. There is a similar morality mechanic. The main game story is similarly well done. The two main differences are the setting, a fictionalized fantasy version of ancient China, and the fight mechanics. KOTOR had a turn based fighting system where you could queue actions. Jade Empire has a real-time mechanic where you must dodge and time attacks on your opponents. The fight system isn't too complicated, but there are numerous styles you can unlock with various strengths and weaknesses. Choosing which styles to specialize in and upgrade is a bit like customizing your Jedi in KOTOR, and it adds a lot of replay value. You might want to go through the story at least a couple of times to explore the good and evil versions, but the real draw to replaying is in trying out different fighting, magic and weapon styles. I wish there were more games of this quality on iOS.

Loved the original game but poor coding makes the game difficult to play

N//A..

Originally I loved this game, but as you play you start to find things that really are so irritating. First off while fighting, your target moves CONSTANTLY, it’s such a pain as you fight an enemy and almost kill him and then it automatically changes your target. Or even better is when it is constantly changing your opponent and you are fighting round and round in circles. You can’t control like on a gaming console which is what you have to expect when using touch screen devices instead of buttons on a controller, but they should have realized this when programming the game. It’s like they just tried to throw this in the market as fast as possible and didn’t even think to fix certain game play aspects. I know the Star Wars: Knights of the old republic had aspects of that game that made it transition easier to a touch screen experience but some of those options should have been brought in to this, or just a whole other outcome... I’m furious because it just makes the game intolerable... no wonder it had such a low rating on the google play store... should be the same here.
