By Aspyr Media, Inc.

This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.

Jade Empire: Special Edition is an award-winning action RPG from the makers of Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Experience a unique combination of fast paced martial arts action with a gripping, character driven story set in a mythical land. Each decision builds your reputation, changing the course of interactions with other characters and followers. Take the role of a master of martial arts, and recruit followers to your cause in an interactive, living world.

Embark on an epic journey with fascinating characters across a graphically beautiful, fantastic new world inspired by the myths and legends of ancient China. Sinister events upset the peaceful harmony of an isolated martial arts school, drawing you into a story that unfolds with drama, action, and adventure. Detailed followers and other non-player characters enrich the adventure by providing comic relief, rivalries, flirtations, and hostility. Stare in awe at the sweeping views of the lush environments, sheer vertical drops, and overpowering scale that provide the visual backdrop to the story. Confront wild outlaws, evil magicians, demonic incarnations, and other foul villains that protect the Jade Empire’s darkest secrets.

Good port of fantastic Bioware epic

I never got to play Jade Empire on XBox, but the experience on iOS was exactly what you would expect from Bioware. It's also pay once and play, so no freemium nonsense. This game will feel familiar to anyone who played Knights of the Old Republic. The characters move similarly, the dialogue options and voice acting is similar (with some of the same voice cast). There are companions with storylines to unlock just like KOTOR. There is a similar morality mechanic. The main game story is similarly well done. The two main differences are the setting, a fictionalized fantasy version of ancient China, and the fight mechanics. KOTOR had a turn based fighting system where you could queue actions. Jade Empire has a real-time mechanic where you must dodge and time attacks on your opponents. The fight system isn't too complicated, but there are numerous styles you can unlock with various strengths and weaknesses. Choosing which styles to specialize in and upgrade is a bit like customizing your Jedi in KOTOR, and it adds a lot of replay value. You might want to go through the story at least a couple of times to explore the good and evil versions, but the real draw to replaying is in trying out different fighting, magic and weapon styles. I wish there were more games of this quality on iOS.

Great "wuxia" RPG good MFI controller support

First, to correct a previous reviewer's comment: the iOS version does support the "area attack" through a MFI game controller. You just have to hit both power attack and quick attack buttons together. This was definitely confusing since it's not listed in the controller diagram in the game menu. Area attack is vital since it pushes clumps of enemies away.

Besides that this is a classic Bioware RPG. The combat is definitely real-time relative to say KotOR but is basically positioning and rock-paper-scissors. It does get pretty awkward on touch which is why I bought a steelseries Bluetooth controller which has worked well so far in a day of play.

The voice acting is generally very good. The plot and humor are rather cliched but nevertheless fun.

Please explain

To these stupid untalented game programmers:
Can any of you morons explain why when playing in (jade master) the character you create becomes unresponsive to touch commands on the device we are using? There are only two possibilities here,
(1) either the programmers on staff at Bioware are completely incompetent retards or
(2) you people deliberately make trash to take advantage of the gaming community.
Which one is it or is it both? And why are you charging people for garbage like this? This game SUCKED on Xbox so why respawn something nobody appreciated in the beginning.
Your a dying company Bioware so why don’t you just let your fate be what it is? Any stupid idiot can go to a computer school and learn how to program games it doesn’t mean you have talent for it just like the programmers at Bioware a bunch of college educated dummies. How does that work? I don’t know what trashy college institution you retards went to, but a better question then that is what respectable technical college would graduate imbeciles like you people in the first place? Cause you obviously have no clue on how to balance out gameplay in your games you guys are a lazy, untalented, incompetent, backstabbing, dishonest cult. Yeah that’s right CULT your far from any business or company. And shame on you iOS for allowing such a horrible group of vultures to have any dealings with them
