Ratings and Reviews
Reliable source of information.
Calvin's gift to every generation comes from his background in academics as a lawyer. This insight allowed for him to be meticulous in his investigation for the context in the original languages of the Holy Writes. Even an argumentative contender of Calvin's theological thoughts such as Arminius stated about Calvin's commentary "I affirm that he excels beyond comparison in the interpretation of Scripture, and that his commentaries ought to be more highly valued than all that is handed down to us by the Library of the Fathers; so that I acknowledge him to have possessed above most others, or rather above all other men, what may be called an eminent gift of prophecy" Now, the app could always utilize some betterment and more organizational process to have a verse by verse experience of a Bible verse and a Calvin's commentary. But other than an organizational improvement needed it is an excellent app.
Simple, fantastic resource.
The content, of course, is amazing. This app is easy, to the point, refreshingly minimalistic. Having this John Calvin commentary so readily available on my iPad makes my study so much more convenient, as I do not have to open and wait for the annoyingly long startup screens for Logos, Kindle, etc, to get to my other commentaries.
I gave 4 out of 5 stars because my only nitpick is this: it is a bit frustrating to have to scroll through large portions of biblical text to find the corresponding commentary section. It would be a bit more convenient to have a verse's commentary right after said verse, instead of after the entire chunk of biblical text. Other than that, the app is wonderful.
Terrific and convenient resource
All in all this is a fabulous resource to have: convenient and easy to use. What follows are some suggestions for features I would love to see; not to take away the otherwise outstanding work that's been put into this great resource.
I agree with the other reviews that encourage the developer to allow for a decreased line spacing when the font is proportionally decreased. I like the book and verse selection format if the new ESV Study Bible update, rather than the scrolling wheel format. Since I'm not an app developer, I don't how hard it would be to weave in a word search function into the features, but I could imagine that as being very useful to me.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
