Good game, too short

Cave story being my favorite game of all time, I was excited to hear Pixel would be working on another game. Kero Blaster is a great mobile retro 2D Platformer/basic 2D shooter, that evokes a sense similar to that of a game like Contra with Pixel's own signature flair. The story is kept fairly basic, though it can be delved into in more depth upon closer inspection. Essentially, it centers around a frog janitor that jumps and shoots stuff in interest in protecting the cat president, who is slowly becoming more corrupted by these weird black things. All of that said, this game is very short. It has enough difficulty to be fun yet fair, though frustrating at times. Luckily, the iPhone controls are fairly well setup to avoid unfair difficulty brought on by the controls commonly found in mobile games, at least for the most part. This is a great mobile game, problems mostly just being brought on by the fact that it's too short. The gameplay experience, and story could honestly be extended significantly and it would help the game overall a lot. Kero blaster is a great mobile game. It's difficult and fun. It's just not long enough.
Okay that's a silly complaint, maybe, I know I keep saying it. But for the game we have here I think it's valid, because you CAN do a lot more with it. It's too bad that not much more was done.

Pixel is back!

Awesome weapons, brilliant soundtrack, and beautiful pixels in a non-ironic way!

From the creator of the smash indie hit "Cave Story" comes a brand-new platform shooter Kero Blaster! Fight your way through seven unique worlds, collecting a variety of weapons and power-ups.

The gameplay feels like a blend of classic games like Megaman, Contra, and Metroid. You can switch weapons at any time to fight enemies more effectively or simply use your favorite weapon. My personal favorite was the green, multi-directional blaster.

The soundtrack is incredibly well done, and the melodies will stick with you even after you clear the game. It has what most games fail to develop in their music: Personality. It's unfortunate that there isn't an in-game jukebox offered after finishing the game.

Controls are crafted about as well as touch-devices will allow. The gameplay gets hectic during the Boss Fights, but it never devolves into a virtual button-mash panic to survive. The control scheme is simple. With your left thumb, you move with Left/Right. With your right thumb, you can choose to shoot Left, Right, or Up. You also have a button to Jump.

The game is not too challenging for old-school platform game players, but don't let that dissuade you. This is as good as iOS platforming gets! Highly recommended! I even gifted a copy to my brother. And his Mother. And then her boss, Charles.

A Must Play.

Kero Blaster excels in almost every way. With its catchy soundtrack, unique art style and frantic gameplay, it's one of the best run and gun games on iOS. That's said however, it does have some flaws. For one, it's very short, especially for a 5$ game. Less than 10 levels is really disappointing. Although I do prefer quality over quantity, it's still hard to just glance past the fact that you're paying so much for so little. I also found the bosses a little aggravating, since I wish I could just shoot down like in Cave Story. Even spending all my money on weapons on my second play through still made it feel like I couldn't shoot where I wanted to. Even with these flaws, I still had a great time.
