Lots of Potential

Pros: It comes with a decent number of accessible keto meals including ingredients and instructions. The recipes are delicious! It helps to calculate your dietary needs based off of your measurements, weight, and activity level.

Cons: It has a very limited amount of food items to choose from in the Quick Meal option. If you aren’t plugging in one of their recipes for your intake, it can be a real pain trying to input and calculate what you’ve consumed. Not only is it difficult to find what you’ve eaten in their search menu, but not all of it is correct. Forget trying to specify something like roasted broccoli, or finding accurate information for something like a tall cappuccino from Starbucks. I’ve never had these kind of issues in My Fitness Pal, and I used the free version. You also can’t import recipes from the internet like on MFP, not that I know of at least.

Overall: If you are new to keto, or trying to pick up the diet again, then I completely recommend it! I think there is definitely room for growth, but this app really does make a huge difference! Using it this time, it makes the transition much smoother! Yes, it’s 6.99, but really that’s nothing.

What you’re mostly paying for is the planner portion of the app-needs improvement

To be fair, as a food blogger I completely understand all the hard work that goes into developing recipes, and that’s BEFORE tweaking it umpteen times, food styling, photos, and the tedious act of inputting your recipes online. For that point food bloggers are vastly underpaid. But to pay $6.99 to only have access to 120-ish recipes is pretty disappointing. (Edit: the developer says its upwards of 600 recipes, but this is not on their app in their list of recipes, but instead linked with their blog) The planner app is not very user friendly and pretty limited but has potential.

All in all-you’re just not getting the value for the money, but with some tweaking, this app could be great. Kudos to the developer for the idea and the business savvy for another avenue to monetize their ideas, but my advice to the developer would be to stop defending the cost and listen to the many reviews saying the same thing-have more access to recipes without cost, and make the app more user friendly.

---------------- Update
The recipes are fully integrated into the app (and not 'linked') which means you can add them directly to you day, add their ingredients to the basket, clone them & modify them etc.
---------------- Original Reply
Actually it's a lot more than 90 recipes - KetoDiet includes 96 + 625 recipes - our content is second to none. In our experience when people complain about the optional recipe packages is because they are not aware how many recipes they get for free. That's partially our fault because we keep our integrated blog recipes separate - we plan to correct that in an upcoming release.

Good but price gouging

The app is nice. It allows you to enter custom foods and seems to be so far so good. My only problem is the price gouging. You pay the basic, fine but the arbitrary recipe categories are just an excuse to get money. If for example, the categories were dairy free or vegetarian or vegan or gluten-free etc., it would make sense. Why should a vegan have to pay for gluten-free recipes if they'll never eat them? I get that, it makes sense and it's fair. That's not how this app works. The arbitrary categories are clearly just a way to get out to the customers. Why are chocolate desserts divided, some in one category, some in another? To force people to buy categories they don't need or want just to get one recipe, that's why. It's a shame because I want to like this app but I like people and apps that shoot straight. It's a shame because this could be a top notch app if it weren't for this nickel and dining and sneaky approach to getting more money.

Developer Response

Hello, not sure why you feel the categories for the optional recipe packages are arbitrary. We don't think that 'Salad edition', 'Extra-low carb', 'Easy & simple', etc sound arbitrary to be honest. But, even if you feel strongly that the packages should have been organised entirely differently, isn't a bit of a stretch to accuse us being 'sneaky' and aiming to 'get more (of your) money'? To get a refund for any purchases including the app you simply have to tap on Help > Online Support and search for refund. That's how 'sneaky' we are.
