Customer Reviews

Like Kindle, but...

Love to be able to get word definitions easily since I feel that I'm increasing my vocabulary, but the definitions are so dim that they're almost impossible to read. I've tried adjusting settings (iPad) but can't seem to fix it. I also find "X-Ray" awkward and not as informatory as I'd like. I usually go to it when I want to refresh my memory about a character and I don't get straightforward info - just places in the book where the character is mentioned or speaks. I love the way this is done in iBooks. It just gives a brief summary of who the character is and how he/she relates to the story. I'm also unhappy withe the fact that I can't but books directly from the site but have to go to Amazon's website to purchase. I know it's the "meanies" at Apple who insisted on this stipulation, but I think it's unsportsmanlike and makes it more difficult for the consumer. Apple has its own good reading app in iBooks, so let Kindle compete on a level playing field.

I've attempted to use Kindle for iPad for the past 3 years.

I'm exhausted with the Kindle app for iPad. Maybe (I hope) it works better on the Kindle machine but I don't know. All I know is that the Kindle for iPad seems to have a "Feather-Brained" approach to what a reading app should be. What I mean is, the features get in the way of and interrupt actual reading of a book. For example, page numbers are not always supported and are most often given as a algebraic notation of location which has no relevance to actually knowing where you are in a book. Also, equally aggravating is the mysterious use of bookmarks, so over complicated that it's easy to lose your place as to where you actually left off reading at your last reading section. I could go on and on but will leave off here and simply recommend that iPad users use the 'books' app that comes with the iPad.

Terrible upgrade. How can I go back?

I cannot figure out the new search function. My highlights and bookmarks are in there somewhere, but how can I quickly and SIMPLY find them? I don't need or want the extras and little colored bands on my screen and I feel limited by the page scrolling when trying to do a search. You might have lost me as a customer.

The upgrade is a downgrade for the "dictionary." The print is so "light" that it is impossible to read. To really find meaning then one has to jump to the definition, which, thank heavens was not altered. Please fix SOON. I see that other folks have the same issue with this.
