I thought I was being lazy, but...

Monstevr just turns out the game is badly designed. I’m usually a huge fan of mixing genres, but when you take the worst genre (free-to-play smartphone crime), even that mixes poorly with an awesome genre like vertical shoot-em-up. The whole thing about vertshmups that makes them exciting is that they yield to you as YOU, THE PLAYER, get better. But there is enough user-hostile RPG in here to turn away people who like to have fun. You simply won’t do well until you’ve devoted an inappropriate amount of time to the game. Which is a shame, because I only reinstalled it for the FFXV crossover bonuses, meaning that I literally don’t have time to level my characters to the point that they can even survive the quests that give you itty bitty specks of progress toward unlocking those bonuses.

So congratulations, Squenix: you’ve finally done such a bad job that even I, an avowed addict of your IPs, don’t even want a part of this.

Give me the skin, shirt, and music for free for my trouble, ya bozos. I don’t need the elemental boost on the shirt.

A graceful goodbye

This version was just about the classiest thing that Square could have done with a game that held such promise, and yet that was marred by early bugs and gacha gone wrong. It was very easy to play for someone like me, but very hard to get the units you needed to advance through any story. I had fun with it, so this is a fond farewell.

I, and several others, would like to see this team come up with something similar: a quick pick-up-and-play that is either with a gacha system that works (is fair for the price), or that will do well as a standalone game. We’d gladly pay five dollars, maybe seven dollars or 10, but no more.

To everyone else, I’d say: use that link provided when you update; it will give you a chance to tell these guys what you really want out of a game like this. Let your voice be heard..

Auto problems

It’s an okay game, but auto is a total farce. If you don’t pay attention, your characters WILL get stuck, run away from medals and treasure, jump off cliffs over and over until they die, and jump in the path of boulders they can’t defeat until they die. It is literally impossible to play on auto when there are cliffs because your character WILL jump off them at the soonest opportunity. When there are boulders, it depends on your character’s level. If there are neither, you may be able to pay give the game only 50-75% of your attention, to be on the alert for when your character gets stuck or runs away from medals and treasures.
