It's not bad

Admittedly, there's a lot where this game can be improved but as of right now I'm pretty sure this is the only app for HKMJ on the iPad. It's good enough that my mom sits for hours playing it without wanting to return the pad to me. Maybe that's why I gave it 3 stars.

No, really, I gave this app 3 stars and not 5 is because of these reasons:

1- freezes sometimes when it doesn't know what to do. Say I have 1m1m1m2m2m2m3m3m3m4m4m5m5m, and the person before throws out 3m - the computer will freeze because I guess it's trying to figure the options. Is it a pong or is a sheung for 123, 234 or 345. Or have I won. It's situations like these where it freezes and freezes for a good 5-10 minutes if you're willing to wait it out.

2- slightly different from the style my mom plays. Where are the flowers? What wind are you? Why do I get a fan for every wind I pong? It feels like a dumbed down version of what my mom and aunties play. BUT my mom could still sit for hours playing this game. Maybe we can have a settings option where we can change these.

3- appearance is kinda boring. Blue tiles only? And why so boxy? Let's round out the corners. Give us color options for the tiles and table.

What is reassuring is that this game is updated fairly frequently and can look forward to these glitches being solved in the future. It's not great, but it definitely cures the hand itching.

Need a lot of work

I was excited to find an authentic mahjong game for iPad and not one of those matching tile game. However, this game needs a lot of improvement. First off, there is no instruction at all. You are on your own to figure out how to play. Not about the rules, just how to start the game, how to discard tiles, how to take tiles from the upper hand, etc. Then there is no score keeping. You don't start with a set amount of chips so you can keep track of how you are doing, winning or losing. Each game ends then a new game starts so it gets boring after a few games. The graphic is terrible. The tiles look like they are sitting on a piece of astro turf, really there is no graphic to speak of. I purchased China Mahjong for my iPhone for $.99. Having to pay $3.99 for this one, there is no comparison. I totally wasted my money. I wish the developer can check out how cool China Mahjong for iPhone is and duplicate some of the features for this game.

It might not be fancy looking but I love the simplicy of it. This is the ONLY Hong Kong style mahjong in the app store that takes advantage of the ipad's screen! Keep up the good work! It's also nice that it never plays a "chicken" hand. It would be nice if we can set the difficulty or allow multiplayer on the same ipad with the ipod touch like how they did it on scrabble.
