The app will allow you to keep a digital representation of your already-issued Louisiana-issued state ID or driver's license. The app will generate a unique image that is 100% Legal for driving purposes per Louisiana law of Act 625 of the 2016 session with growing acceptance to include restaurants, bars, and retail outlets. An in-app purchase of $5.99 activates it for legal usage for the same term as your physical Louisiana Drivers License.
Louisiana State Police has agreed to accept the image and information about your Louisiana driver's license as it appears and is rendered dynamically on your mobile device with tamper-proof seals.
Touch and Face ID: You asked for it with over 125 upvotes and we delivered. You can now use your fingerprint and facial recognition instead of the 4-digit PIN to access LA Wallet.
AAMVA Code Display: Using the [View] button while viewing your digital driver’s license now displays that wicked-looking 2D barcode on the back of your physical license. This can be scanned at the grocery store to confirm you are old enough to buy those stogies and that fine chianti to go with the fava beans.
VerifyYou(™): This innovative feature is another Louisiana first in the nation. It allows two people to agree to validate one or the other in a “hands-off” secure fashion. The “Verifier” is an LA Wallet holder who wishes to verify one or some aspects of another LA Wallet user called the “Presenter.”
Add License by Scanning Physical License Barcode: Typing in all of your license details perfectly has shown to be pretty tough. Now when adding a license to LA Wallet, the wicked-looking 2D barcode on the back of the physical license can be scanned by the phone’s camera. It may be tricky, but it’s worth saving the keystrokes.
Audit Number Help: We sure took a lot of calls helping citizens find their Audit Number. Now we have some helpful information for finding it.
Social Media Sharing: There is finally relief for your overflow of joy and excitement with LA Wallet. You can now share with your friends how to get LA Wallet through SMS, Facebook, Email, and many other mobile sharing methods. Try this one out now by going to Settings and Share.
Screenshot wrist-slap (iOS Only): Don’t you dare take a screenshot of your license. If you do, LA Wallet will tell you what a bad idea it was. You certainly don’t want your identity floating around in your photo gallery or unsecurely replicated to your other devices.
Other Fixes and Improvements
Additional Security VooDoo was added.
4th PIN Circle never lit: The misbehaving 4th circle on the PIN entry page was fired and a new, more compliant circle was added.
Really Complex Passwords Allowed: We now support those really crazy passwords with all the strange symbols.
Wildlife and Fisheries Endorsements: W1-W5 endorsements will now properly display in LA Wallet. Apparently they were out of season for a time.
Ratings and Reviews
Great start, needs a major update for Wallet App
I was able to get an account created and have my state issued license on my phone within about 3 minutes. There is a cost of $5.99, but well worth the hassle if caught without my ID. I can leave home with nothing more than my phone and feel safe and be legal. However, this app needs a major update to add the ID to the Wallet App of the phone. Most police officers take driver’s IDs back to their vehicle. Not everyone feels comfortable handing a police officer their phone - especially unlocked and out of sight. Adding the ID to the Wallet app with remedy this as the phone will be locked during this time of accessed from the lock screen.
Thanks for the review, gwh34t. We also appreciate your feature requests, including to have it added to the Wallet app of the phone. More than a few others have requested this at our https://feedback.lawallet.com site where ever request is personally reviewed. Please keep up with your app updates, as are adding features that address your concerns in a forthcoming update. Again, be sure to visit https://lawallet.com to learn more about the "hands-off" and "no-touch" practices that accompany LA Wallet and law enforcement.
It couldn’t be easier to add your “Digital” Louisiana drivers license to your phone. In order to add your license, you must have information from your current physical drivers license. It does cost $5.99 to get the “official” digital license (paid as in-app purchase). This digital license is a legal license in the state of Louisiana. Considering the continued proliferation of digital pay in stores (like Apple Pay), it only makes sense to have official digital id’s. Great forward thinking by the State of Louisiana and the folks at the OMV.
Thank you for that informative review, Barry. We appreciate you recognizing the efforts of our great state and public servants. If you would like to help us continue to innovate and improve LA Wallet, please visit https://feedback.lawallet.com.
A Great Start - Please add Fingerprint Support
Like other reviewers have stated, “LA Wallet” is a great start for a great idea. Nice to see Louisiana be the first to a progressive idea. For $5, I have a convenient way to carry my ID and can feel better about making trips without my wallet. Only way this relatively simple app could be better is if it supported fingerprint unlock, and possibly a way to let police have access to the ID without access to the rest of the phone.
Thank you for the rating and review, Nola Boy For Life. We are proud to be the first with this progressive idea. Your first idea of including fingerprint unlock is already under development and may have been released by the time you read this response. Generally, law enforcement will not ask to touch your phone unless there is a reason outside of a routine traffic stop to do so. You can read more about this at https://lawallet.com.
