The app works perfectly but you
Must do some work first with your
LaCie drive. Use the Lacie Network assistant from your computer to enable remote access and give the drive a name, Then use the app to setup as new hard drive with name you have given in the remote access menu. It will work just fine. I was confused at first too. It really does work. How fast you can access data over a wireless phone network 3G or 4G depends on the network. If you have a good wifi connection anywhere you can access the NAS drive easily. One item I discovered was that if I added more files from my computer to the NAS drive the app would not immediately see those files. It is important to "clear cache" in the app settings on the iPad or iPhone. This essentially wipes it clean then relaunching shows the most updated file set. I use the drive mostly for music files. Multiple devices can pull files simultaneously to listen to music. The negative comments might be from people expecting the drive to do too much. It isn't a server computer. It is meant for personal use. Look at the price of the drive. It's a fraction of what an expensive server would cost.
Worst app ever!
Of all the apps that allow remote access to files this is the worst. QuikIO and AirPlayIt are far superior. The idea of being able to access my files without having to leave my PC on was very exciting. The Lacie Cloudbox itself does a nice job of being a local network server, but the MyNAS app never let's me access my files. Oh sure, I can see the files, but cannot view, listen or do anything with them via this app. You should shut this app down all together because it is completely worthless!
I'm stumped at the first log in screen. How/when/where do I register? I want to use this to back up my photos etc from ipad and iphone to my new cloudbox.
No instructions on or in the box told me I had to download an app, after plugging up the cloudbox I couldn't figure out how to get the iphone or ipad to see it... So I searched the Itunes store and found this lacie app. I think it's what I need but I can't use it because I need to be registered.
