Mapping created for cyclists, by cyclists.
LaneSpotter is a community-sourced bike mapping and navigation tool, with a focus on safety. Through the app, you can create and view:
Bike Maps: Find all of the protected bike lanes, painted bike lanes, shared lanes, and multi-use trails. If your city doesn’t have a Bike Map, let us know so we can add it!
Safety Maps: Community-sourced Safety Ratings on nearby roads. Safety Ratings are provided by cyclists who have biked theses roads. Ratings are Very Safe, Safe, Average, Use Caution and Avoid.
Alerts: Drop pins on the map to alert other cyclists of road conditions, closures and tips. For example: large potholes or grates, temporary bike lane closures, dangerous intersections, short cuts.
Spotter Stops: Quickly and easily find nearby bike shops, bike share locations, fix stations and bike-friendly businesses.
We’re always improving our app to make it better for you. The current version includes bug fixes and an update to the map that's displayed after creating cycling directions.

Not good enough
I was excited to see an app that helps bikers be more safe. However, there are too many issues right now for it to be useful.
-You can’t use the app without signing up first. There is no way try the app without logging in. It would be nice to have some use of the app and get full functionality once you sign up.
-It’s missing a lot of data. At this point, Google maps is still better with bike routes. I can’t see someone switching to lanespotter unless it does just as good or better than existing solutions.
-Map scrolling performance is poor. When I move the map around I often need to lift my finger and start moving it again. Happens with my iPhone 8 and iPad.
-Points of interest on map disappear when zooming in/out. I tried out the bike shop and business filters. I can see several pins on the map but when I zoom in the pin disappears. It happens when zooming out also.
I had high hopes for this app but it should have been more polished before release. I’m gonna check back in a month or two to see if there are any improvements.
Bike paths are not recognized
Nice idea but can't use this over Google maps. It needs: a) Map data has to be current; b) Directions has to snap to existing bike ways.. Right now in Palo alto area, it ignores that Bryant street is designed to be used by hikes; routes through parallel, stop-filled Waverley instead. c) Rating process needs UX improvement. Too difficult to rate.
Still really buggy, zoom is borderline unusable
Does not differentiate between directions of travel when marking roads: often, a road is safe if one direction but should be avoided in the other (even if it is not 1-way)
Needs a CamScanner-style magnifying glass when marking roads, otherwise misidentifies finger presses
