Language Learning Aptitude Test
By British Council
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
Check your aptitude for learning languages, and share the results with your friends.
This app tests your ability for learning new languages by testing how well you learn words and sentences in ‘made up’ languages.
First you learn words and sentences in new ‘made up’ languages, then the app tests you on what you have learnt.
The test is in five parts. Each part tests key aspects required to learn a new language. These are
Part 1 - tests how well you recognise and understand spoken words and patterns in a new language.
Part 2 - tests how well you recognise the spelling of spoken words in a new language.
Part 3 - tests how well you learn and apply the structure of a new language.
Part 4 - tests how well you recognise patterns and rules in a new language.
Part 5 - tests how well you can memorise words in a new language.
This test is broadly consistent with standards used for language aptitude testing.
The instructions and navigation in the app are in the following languages:
Bulgarian български език
Estonian eesti keel
Hungarian magyar nyelv
Latvian latviešu valoda
Lithuanian lietuvių kalba
Polish język polski

This app is fun, but don't expect to use it very much. I would have given it a 5 except, there is no feedback about your scores or more information. I would have really like to see a little more to it, like maybe some information about different studies that use tests like these or at least possible application of results.
Also, a previous reviewer posted that they couldn't get the app in their language, that is not true. This app tests your ability to learn a MADE-UP language. It would not be very accurate if it tested your ability to learn Spanish, if you already spoke Spanish...
I couldn't use without a headset.
I had trouble getting lesson two to open and had to restart.
Lesson two buttons do not respond to touch at all, after two restarts, but i still passed the test at eight percent by listening for patterns in the questions (where audio DOES work).
Lesson three worked perfectly but the test was a different fake language than the lesson! I tried to guess but there were no similar suffixes or vocabulary at all.
I quit there, but the program would be fantastic if I could get it to work right.
An interesting concept
A great app. It tests your ability to learn a new language. Obviously, the developers had to do it using made-up languages.
