"Larkwire is already helping immensely with my ability to bird in the field. And my 7-year-old daughter is asking for 'that bird song game on the computer.'—I guess you have THREE of us hooked!" (Courtenay Schurman, Mountaineering Trainer)

"It's like having a personal teacher who can pinpoint my weaknesses and make me work on them as I play. By far the best value for your money when you think about buying an avian audio guide." (Alain Clavette, aka @Acadian_Birder)

"A fantastic tool for learning and reviewing birdsong. ... What I can vouch for, as a teacher, is the solid learning theory behind the software—this program is sure to improve the speed and accuracy with which you identify birds by ear." (David Pugh, Calgary Birder)

a wonderful tool for birding by ear

Billing this as a game doesn’t do it justice. This is a well thought-out combination of a programmed learning system and a reference tool (check out the “Search and Browse” feature for the latter function). It is a very efficient and effective way to prepare to make the most of your field experience. I am impressed and grateful, and am using it with pleasure. It even tries to forestall addiction by asking you politely whether it’s “time to go birding?” when you play the game past a certain point.
My one complaint, which is really a wish for the ideal learning tool for birding by ear, is that this does not include chip and flight calls. Songs are great for spotting male birds during the breeding season, but that neglects half of the birds, and two-thirds of the year. In other words, like most general guides for birding by eye, this tool concentrates on the items that are easiest to teach, and to learn, rather than on what is most useful in the field.
Maybe a future songpack billed as “expert” level (because it would only baffle beginners) could be dedicated to some selection of calls?

I needed to learn 200 bird songs for avian point count work I will be doing this summer. This app is essential to my learning birds specific to the area where I will be working. The ability to create your own list is essential . Since I am limited on time I need the ability to focus on just the birds I need to be able to recognize in my region. I appreciate the two game formats. I also like that you can choose your own difficulty level. The app gets more challenging by selecting birds with similar calls. I believe if you work on avian studies or are a serious birder this app will greatly improve your skills in the field. The cost of this app is minimal when you consider the amount of info it contains. Thank you greatly for helping me streamline my work studies!!!

The best way to learn bird songs

I am a birder and a teacher. What I like about this program is that it fits my learning style perfectly. By grouping similar bird songs together and then providing randomized quizzes, the program enables the learner to master concrete and manageable amounts of knowledge in each sitting. Like any other educational program, you will get out of it what you put into it: the more you use the program, the better your ear-birding skills will become.
