lot going for it

I like this application a lot. It is fast and well thought out. Want I especially like and what I think puts it ahead of many of the other legal reference apps is the fact that it is "one-stop", so I don't have to have one app for each body of law and the additions are reasonably priced and easy to purchase on the fly from within the app and there is a wide selection of statutes and jurisdictions (although I would love to have the NYS PJI added, I doubt it can be done).

I do have one criticism: the method of navigation has way too many steps. Each "book" has a separate page for each subdivision, i.e. in the FRE, one page for Articles, one page for the Rules within the Article and finally the actual text. I guess I am not so bothered by the getting there but this method makes jumping to various sections quite tedious as it requires a near round trip back and then forward again every time. I'm note sure what the solution to this problem would be, perhaps a one-third screen navigation panel on the left and a two-thirds text panel on the right? And make the navigation panel collapsible (or a popover) so the text can be viewed full screen? Come to think of it, that would be a perfect solution as it works like a charm in other iPad apps.

LawStack Pros and Cons

Here are the pros. The layout of the app is wonderful, and since I'm a VoiceOver user, it works well. I like how the sections and subsections are broken up and linked. Here are the cons: 1. Each title of the CFR or USC has to be purchased individually and is an individual app. This is problematic if you desire to have an entire legal library. Also, not all state codes are included, such as Iowa or Arizona. The Federal Statutes are also not included. Also, there isn't a complete archive from the year the regulation or legislation was made effective to the present date. This can be problematic when doing legal research and case preparation. Also, the court rules for the Supreme Courts, Appeals Courts, Circuit courts, and District courts are not included, and neither are the state court rules. Also, there is no way to look up case sites with this app. Also, the Public Laws are not included, as well as each State's sets of Acts. Also, the policies and procedures of each state and federal agency are not included, nor their administrative codes.

Great Idea

This is a great idea and the free titles are appreciated. I purchased Tekk Innovations Florida Statutes and will be more inclined to purchase additional products if they can all be accessed through one application. I hope that I can add my existing purchase to LawStack. This developer seems to be making the most serious go at the iPhone legal reference software market. This application looks like it will soon provide for in application purchase of additional titles. The developer is serious about user feedback - there is a function for requesting additional reference subjects and for providing feedback built into the application. Very professional approach.
