★ 1-Week Sale 80% off ★ *A Unique Find* The Journal of Discourses is a 26-volume collection of speeches by early leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Journal is one of the richest sources of early Mormon theology and thinking. It includes 1,438 speeches given by 55 church leaders, including most numerously Brigham Young, John Taylor, Orson Pratt, Heber C. Kimball, and George Q. Cannon.
“The Journal of Discourses deservedly ranks as one of the standard works of the Church, and every rightminded Saint will certainly welcome with joy every number (issue) as it comes forth.“ (President George Q. Cannon, Journal of Discourses, Preface, Volume 8.)
“Each successive Volume of these Discourses is a rich mine of wealth, containing gems of great value, and the diligent seeker will find ample reward for his labor. After the fathers and mothers of this generation have made them the study of their lives their children’s children will find that they are still unexhausted, and rejoice that this Record has been handed down from their fathers to also aid them in following the way of life.” (Apostle Orson Pratt, Preface. Volume 3.)
“It is impossible to give monetary value to the past volumes of this publication, … Those who read the utterances of the servants of God, contained in this book, under the same influence by which the speakers were inspired, cannot fail to receive profit from the perusal.” (President Joseph F. Smith, Preface, Volume 18.)
“We take great pleasure in presenting to the Saints and the world the … the Journal of Discourses, which they will find contains rich treasures of information concerning the glorious principles of Eternal Life, as revealed through God’s anointed servants in these last days. All who read the discourses contained in this Volume are earnestly recommended to adapt them to their lives by practice, and we can confidently assure them that, in doing so, they are laying up a store of knowledge that will save and exalt them in the Celestial kingdom.” (Apostle Albert Carrington, Journal of Discourses, Preface, Volume 15.)

This app is GARBAGE! Just one example: say you do a search for the word "atonement." It will show you all the occasions of the word. Great so far, right? Then you click on one, read it, but decide it does not interest you. You think, no problem, I'll go back to the search results and look at another occasion. What??? There are no search results. You must start over again at the beginning and retype the word "atonement." In essence, you can view one result per search.
As soon as people quit buying this app, maybe the provider will feel motivated to make some improvements. As of yet, I have never received an update (which tells me that the provider doesn't care--he/she is getting the $$). Save yourself the $1.99 for something worthwhile.
As bad as everyone says
I spent 99 cents (with my eyes open) just to check this out. I quickly confirmed the shortcomings and deleted it. Try instead "The LDS Citation Index." This wonderful FREE app from BYU indexes every scripture cited in General Conference (since 1942), the Journal of Discourses, or the Teaching of the Prophet Joseph Smith. There is a full table of contents for the GC and the JD (so you read chronologically if you want), plus a search function that works like a charm. There is no highlighting function, but you can insert bookmarks or copy text. These is also a web version, although you can't sync bookmarks to the mobile version, as far as I can see. Right now, the LDS Citation Index is the only way to go on the Journal of Discourses.
I have downloaded and re-downloaded this app and it still does not work. I can browse to the section I want to read but when I select it a blank screen appears. I have emailed them and after several days I have not heard a response. If my issue gets resolved I will write another review but at this point this app is crap. Don't spend any money on this app.
Ok months later now and still garbage. I have sent them several polite emails requesting support or updates and I have not heard any replies. Since the app does not work at all I consider this a total scam. They are basically stealing our money.
