Deutsch 101

I like this app for learning/reviewing German vocabulary. Each section is filled with words that one hears spoken frequently. I like the fact that a native speaker is pronouncing the word and the listener can repeat a pronunciation as many times as is necessary to feel comfortable with the word. I also like the retention activities available for each section. The listener can test his/her ability with recall and pronunciation. I wish this app had conversation or dialogues that the listener could read, and then practice reciting. However, for a free app this is an especially good one and I recommend it to anyone trying to develop a basic understanding of the German language. I give it 3*** out of 4****.

Not very reliable

I've noticed some odd translations and things that would be misleading to someone who doesn't understand a lot of the words. For example, in the animal section, while most animals are labeled by their name, a male and female lion would be labeled "Männchen" or "Weibschen". It should be made clear that it is asking for the gender. Verbs/adjectives should not be mixed in with pictures of nouns. I originally picked this up hoping it may help to keep my German vocabulary up or even expand it but this didn't help whatsoever. I'm just glad I knew some things before I picked this up or I'd probably have messed myself.

Easy to learn

I like the way this app has several ways to learn a language. With each group of words, you have word list, flash cards, multiple choice to match either the English or the German word, multiple choice as it pronounces the German word, and spelling. I also like that it associates picture with each word. I only wish it did phrases.
