Ok, lots of room for improvement

Paid version has many lessons, but there are a few missed opportunities for a much better learning experience.

For example, when you pick the right word, the word is pronounced and then the app immediately advances to the next screen. Being able to advance manually to the next screen would help a lot to let the user dwell on the correct answer, along with a replay button to play the pronunciation. Back and forward buttons (at least one screen) would be good.

Also, pronunciation buttons next to each of the several compound words on learning screens would help lots. In the current version, the test screens that follow them are pure trial-and-error for beginners.

Good Way to learn and review kanji

This app is way better than physical flashcards, and the constant review reinforces the learning. I already knew most of the kanji from studying Chinese, but the pronunciations and often the meanings can vary widely, so learning kanji and the Japanese written language in general is an inherently difficult task. The app could be improved by adding more compounds or even sample sentences, but the student will be using other learning materials at the same time. Within its limitations it's an excellent tool.

Straight to the Point

I used WaniKani for months, and as detailed as it was, there were some things that I feel cluttered the application up a bit. This application, on the other hand, is super minimal and to the point and I love it. Just starting out, but things are going great so far. My only criticism is that the font for the kanji is a bit hard to read at times. If they could use a much more simple font, that would be perfect.
