can't recommend enough
This is my favourite app for learning Japanese, and I have been downloading and trying so many by now that I feel like my perspective is valid.
At the time that I found this app, I already knew hiragana and katakana, so I was mostly drawn to the grammar portion of this app. I especially am loving the way it uses kanji only when introducing words (in my case, I know how to say these vocabulary words but may or may not have learned the kanji or how to conjugate the verbs/use them in a sentence) and it is really helping me understand. I like the way the wordbank grows throughout the "levels" so that you actually have to know which kanji are what, even though the lines they fit onto may give you a little hint, I'm finding this still very useful.
This app will help you familiarize yourself with kanji, and help you understand the grammar/sentence structure of the language. I'm liking it so much I just had to leave a review. Hope this helped!
Best Japanese learning app
Update: I did give this app 4 stars and took off one for the crashing problem. I just took off another because of the latest update. Each kana lesson to learn has been shortened. The part that helped out the most at least for me is now gone. Why would you remove the learning function that gave you a blank screen and forced you to use your memory and draw the kana yourself with out guides. That was a HUGE help in actually learning these characters. Now I feel like this app is not worth the money in its current state. Please stop tinkering with perfection why do companies also feel they have the need to do so. And the app support doesn’t work.
Like the title states out of all the learning apps I have tried I believe this is the most helpful and is the best app to learn Japanese. My one complaint is the app will occasionally not respond and will crash back to my phone’s home screen. I hope that would be fixed soon but even with that minor problem this app is more than worth the cost of it.
Good, But Not Perfect
This app has been very helpful, along with Memrise, for learning Japanese. I paid to upgrade it.
The only real complaint I have so far is that some of the characters dont look right. They are highly stylized, and look nothing like the character would look hand written or printed in a basic Japanese font. For example, "fu" looks oddly squished compared to the basic character, and "ya" Looks significantly different. A native Japanese speaker might recognize them, but I don't, and it makes it confusing when I see these characters elsewhere and they look nothing like I remember.
It would be nice if they would add in a method for teaching stroke order, because I have found that I can't properly write the characters after memorizing them. I recognize them when reading, but I have to go back and look at the to be able to write them. I can use another app for that, but it would be nice to have it in a single app.
