Customer Reviews

This is just a DEMO… not even freemium!

You will download this. You will go through the first lesson (2 minutes).
Then you will hit a pay wall that tells you everything else requires a month subscription! I think a fixed fee per course is much more appropriate than a subscription!

You will be disappointed that this wasn’t spelled out more clearly.

To be fair, I think it is mentioned somewhere in the App Store details, but come on! You make me jump through registration hoops and only later do you really point out this important detail?! It means this amounts to little more than a demo. And one of the shorter ones, at that. Who ever heard of language app by subscription? i’d much rather buy it as a one time purchase!

The lessons also aren’t very good. I’ve had quite a bit of fun with DuoLingo, which is structured similarly, but is better. Duolingo is better about letting you repeat pronunciations, and has a listening component where it checks your pronunciation. Overall, Babbel was pretty shallow by comparison. I felt like it breezed through the lesson, without ever repeating and reinforcing what I was supposed to be learning.

I guess they expect you to learn a phrase after hearing it once.
