Description

This app is designed for tablets. It is not recommended for phones.

Our Letter Tiles app lets you build words, divide words into syllables, and hear the sounds of the phonograms. Just choose your program from the menu (All About Reading or All About Spelling) and select which lesson number you are currently teaching. The appropriate letter tiles for that lesson will appear, making it easy for you to teach and easy for your child to learn.

The app contains all the phonograms, suffixes, and word parts taught in the All About Reading and All About Spelling lesson plans.

Suitable for all ages and learning styles!

Please Note: This app does not read words aloud.

Update made some things worse

**UPDATE: Based on the developer’s advice I drug the first letter to a line that is NOT the first line and was able to add multiple words to a line and do “change the word” again. Changing my rating from 3 stars to 4. Fixing the first line bug and allowing the user to adjust the size of keyboard area are what it will take to get the 5th star.** Previously the app would reopen with the orientation last used but now it will only open with the locked orientation so I have to unlock it every time I use the app and relock it when I’m done since the app is far less functional in portrait mode. Far more important, I can no longer put two separate words on the same line. Once I put the first word it will only let me start a second word everywhere on the screen EXCEPT the line with the first word. Update: After trying to use it further I found that the latest update made the app unusable for many activities. For example, I can no longer play “change the word” with my child because I can’t add a new letter in after taking one out.

**UPDATE: Thanks for your revised review! We have sent through an update that fixed the top line issue. Let me know if that's working better for you! We previously had many comments that our tiles were too small, so we've been working on optimizing the tile size and workspace size due to customer feedback. Hopefully we can get this to a size that works for most people. I'll pass on your suggestion about being able to choose the size as well, thanks!

**PREVIOUSLY: We I'm sorry for all the frustrations! Our tech team is looking into this. If you want to send pictures or video of issues you are having, please contact me at support@allaboutlearningpress.com. Issues seem to affect some models and not others, so including your model number would also be helpful. Hopefully we can get this working better for you soon! ~Merry :-)

An additional update on top row issues: The top row of the workspace is supposed to be reserved for syllable tags (it’s always been that way, but right now, the tiles mistakenly go to that top row if you tap them–and then you won’t be able to add/manipulate them). Try placing a syllable tag there–you should be able to put a syllable tag in that top row space.
See if you can build words lower down and whether you can add or replace tiles when you do that. That should function well, so let me know about any issues when working with words below the top line.

When you tap letters, they are NOT supposed to go to that very top row, so that’s a bug we are working on. They are supposed to go one row down so you can place a syllable tag above them. As a workaround until this is fixed, if you tap your screen lower down to put a gray “placeholder” box up and then tap the tiles, they should line up after the gray placeholder. See if that works for you.

Love app but dislike recent changes

I bought this app the week it came out and I Love It! It is so nice to be able to work on reading and spelling anywhere. And I love that I don’t have to worry about losing tiles. But I dislike the new update. The letter tiles are now so large it takes up most of my the screen on my iPad mini. It would’ve been better to enable us to adjust the tile size ourselves so that those who need a larger size can have it. Also it is a pain to move from one set of tiles to the next. The labels are so small now next to the tiles that it’s hard to get the right one and if you don’t touch the screen just right it won’t let you slide to the next set.

I'm glad that you are enjoying the app! We recently uploaded a new Advanced Tutorial that can help you with toggling between sections--check that out and see if it helps: https://allaboutlearningpress.wistia.com/medias/i5lsendype

I am also using the app on an iPad mini, and find that I still have a bit more than half of the screen for a "desktop." If your display sounds like your desktop is smaller than that, please email a picture to me at support@allaboutlearningpress.com, and we'd be glad to take a look.

I have fallen in love with AAR AND AAS again because of this app

My younger son has dyslexia and both AAR/AAS are great for him, but the tiles were such a pain to use, time-consuming, fall off the board. It was a mental chore for me to sit down and do the lessons with him because of the tedious nature of doing it. The app has changed that. We both love our lessons now. I’m even thinking of starting up AAS for my older student again.

We love everything about the app. However, there are a few tweaks that would make it more user friendly. 1. Dragging syllable tags is a major pain. At time we can’t get the tags to move into the workspace; 2. It would be sweet if tapping the tiles would move them to the workspace instead of having to drag them. I know we can swipe them up too and that is a quicker way to move them rather than a drag, but tapping would be even better.

Thank you for this. It has been a tremendous boon to our school.

Thanks for your suggestion! I'll be sure to pass this on to our developer. I'm so glad the app is helping you and your son enjoy the lessons!
