LibriVox Audio Books provides free access to over 15,000 audio books and thousands of radio dramas. Each audiobook can be streamed over the internet or downloaded for later use. All LibriVox audio books can be freely listened to and shared. The LibriVox Audio Books app features classic best sellers and out of print treasures from every genre of literature in more than 30 languages.
Audio books from LibriVox are free thanks to the dedicated work of hundreds of volunteers who record, edit and distribute the books. New releases are prepared daily, and the entire catalog spans the breadth of world literature, including novels, history, biography, short stories, poetry and more in both fiction and non-fiction.
The LibriVox AudioBook app makes it easy to search the LibriVox catalog of free audio books. You can browse by title, author or genre, look at new recordings, or search by key word. Because the books are free, you can listen to as much or as little of a book as you like with no cost. The app remembers your position, so you can return to a book later, and includes a sleep timer for your convenience.

So many books to listen to.
I read a couple reviews below regarding "a good" voice/reader. I would like to say that as a narrator for LibriVox, I do this for fun and to help get more books in the library. We enjoy doing this for no money and I certainly don't have a perfect voice for everything I read but I wouldn't expect to always hear the right voice for the right part, so to say, I here, but I do enjoy, just as much hearing voices doing parts that I would never expect to hear doing that voice and I appreciate so many people coming together from all over the world with all the different accents and personalities to bring to life these ancient words. Not to mention the time put in!
Mostly good readers. A amazing selection of titles-mostly use it for my kids and for homeschooling, rest times, as well as travel entertainment. It is used at least twice a day for a minimum of an hour each time, usually on at least 2 different devices. It works extremely well for this particular application. By myself, reading aloud to them, I could no possibly cover the range of titles or authors they've managed to come to love- they are ages 7, 6, and 4 just for reference.
My only caveat is that the current update is glitchy-shutting the app off after every chapter. I'm sure it will get worked out.
Better Than CliffsNotes! Catch up on the classics
When you were in high school and college many of the classics that were required reading, if you cheated by reading the CliffsNotes summaries, you can now hear what you were missing.
You can tell that some of the narrators are volunteers with monotone voices but once you get past that and focus on the stories you'll be pleasantly surprised.
There are a wide variety of novels and old radio shows. Great for listening to as you wash dishes or do laundry.
