LibriVox Audio Books provides free access to over 24,000 audio books. Each audiobook can be streamed over the internet or downloaded for later use. All LibriVox audio books can be freely listened to and shared. The LibriVox Audio Books app features classic best sellers and out of print treasures from every genre of literature in more than 30 languages.
Audio books from LibriVox are free thanks to the dedicated work of hundreds of volunteers who record, edit and distribute the books. New releases are prepared daily, and the entire catalog spans the breadth of world literature, including novels, history, biography, short stories, poetry and more in both fiction and non-fiction.
The LibriVox AudioBook app makes it easy to search the LibriVox catalog of free audio books. You can browse by title, author or genre, look at new recordings, or search by key word. Because the books are free, you can listen to as much or as little of a book as you like with no cost. The app remembers your position, so you can return to a book later, and includes unlimited bookmarks and a sleep timer for your convenience.

So much variety
My sister connected me to LibriVox about 5 years ago. I have been able to find works that fit my eclectic tastes from Ambrose Bierce, Algernon Blackwood and A.A.Milne ( whom I just discovered to write of more than Pooh bears) to L. Frank Baum and Lucy Maud Montgomery, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Eleanor Hallowell Abbott. I especially love readers Kara Schallenburg (Helen's Babies), Laurie Anne Walden, Peter Yearsley, Allison Hester, Phil Chenovert, with Gregory Holdsworth being a marvelous, expressive young reader. To be sure this is not my whole list of favorite readers or authors. But it is like going to a candy store to see what else is on the shelf!
Thank you for providing this service for those of us who read like sharks having a feeding frenzy!!
I love this app and all the volunteers who make it so valuable. There are so many great books on here and many of the volunteer readers do a fantastic job even doing different voices for each of the books characters. Because I work for at least 10 hours a day mostly driving heavy equipment I have lots of time to listen to something but precious little time to read even though I love books. This app has made it possible for me to enjoy literature without sacrificing family time and other after work activities.
I love this app. I've listened to several classics already w a long list to go. It's easy, available to down load and remove chapters when completed. I even like it when the narrator changes out during the story. It's like the story teller of an epic adventure might switch out over days. In days past when folks gathered for a sessional fest the would be many bards over a weeklong gathering. I use LibriVox often and tell others about it. Thanks!
