Works well for what it provides
Pros: Setup and installation is relatively easy. Remote and website provides simple access and verification of items. Reliability so far has been very good. Prices are reasonable, but functionality is limited for the price. Utilitarian but reliable.
Cons: No lamp dimming. No outlet replacement; only plug in lamp module or wall switch. No on/off scheduling automation that I've found on the website rules system; only email notification. All access is through the MyQ website (and control via mobile app); no local access for other uses or integration to other systems.
I've added 3 plug in modules, 3 wall switches, 2 garage door integrations, and one garage state remote console; includes left open alarm. All give great feedback and control for open/close or on/off. The original intent was to confirm the garage door was closed. I've added the wall switches recently and they have worked well. So far, all have worked beyond expectation; since they are wireless (513 Mhz) and I've had bad luck with wireless reliability in other devices.
Would recommend if the cons are not a concern for you.
Used to be great, problems now
I have had this on 2 garage doors in 2 different states for several years. Loved it, worked 95% of the time, occasionally had issues if I was still on house wifi and backing out of driveway, but could always get it to work eventually.
I have had some issues that others write about too many close errors, use the manual button to close. That happened as recently as this week, but isn't my main problem now.
For the past 2 weeks the door has been opening again several minutes after we close it. Then yesterday I had a phantom opening out of the blue in the other state, don't know what that was about. I am losing confidence in this system. I have to really pay attention to opening alerts now, I'm constantly checking my phone
Bugs wreck a good app
I have had this app since January 2015- and it generally has worked fine since. Now it is January 2016- and suddenly my whole My Q system is on the fritz. The MyQ connected lights started going on whenever the garage door was opened. I reset (deleted and "relearned") the device and now it turns on whenever the proximity motion sensor is triggered on the main panel in the garage. I deleted the device from the system and it still goes off and on whenever the garage door opener lights go on/off.
I attempted to change the device settings on my phone, thinking that maybe a "rule" in my preferences was accidentally changed... But the app on my phone now crashes if I attempt to even open the rules settings. It makes me worry that the system was hacked or something.
