Somehow you've stumbled across this app, possibly looking for chess. If so, you've come to the right place. This could be your next favorite game.
Lines Of Action is a strategy based board game that compares in complexity to chess. The game has been around for about 40 years, but only in the last couple of decades has the popularity really taken off, prompting international competitions.
The rules of the game are deceptively simple… you need to connect your pieces together before your opponent does. All pieces are equal, and move according to the total number of pieces in a chosen row, column, or diagonal. You can jump your own pieces but not your opponents. Don't worry, our app contains a list of rules as well as highlighting of legal moves to help you learn and play the game.
You can play with a friend, or you can play against our (mostly) friendly computer. You can choose a beginner level to help you learn the ropes, and graduate to master when you really want a challenge.
If you're still reading, then this game is probably for you. You can either go read more about it on Wikipedia and play yourself, or you can download our app and start learning right now. Then, you can teach your friends, and beat them. Enjoy.
What's New in Version 1.3.2
Updates for iOS 7
Minor bug fixes
A very nicely done rendition of an excellent board game. Crisp, clean graphics and sound effects, sensible menus, and no crashes so far. The game itself is excellent, and it's great to see such a high quality iOS implementation.
I only have a few very minor criticisms, none of which warrant taking the score down a star. First, the built-in rules description might be a bit lacking, and is in a non-obvious place. This is easily remedied by looking up the rules online, but a nice big "rules" button on the home screen (leading to a full rules description with illustrated examples) would be good for new players. Second, I'd love to be able to change the color scheme to red and white on green, like in tournament checkers. Again, though, these are minor areas for improvement, and the app deserves high praise for everything that it does so well!
Fun and interesting classic.
This board game has been around for decades... I'm glad to see that it's now available as an app. Interface is good too.
I initially would tap on my game pieces to see the highlighted and available move options. But it is more rewarding when you do the thinking on your own.
Looking forward to playing a human opponent... should be more fun.
LoA is on it's own an exceptional abstract strategy boardgame. Everyone with a checkers set should learn it.
The app is great. Simple and sleek with highlights for possible movement. No crashes so far and I am enjoying games between myself and a friend in Germany.
It misses a way to send a message along with my move. Some kind of chat feature like this would be nice.
