Works pretty good
Once setup properly it works well.
I think a lot of people don't understand what it means when it says router is offline.
There are several pieces that must work for this app to work. Your mobile device must have Internet, your router must have Internet, and your router must be configured and connected to the cloud services.
If your router is online and your mobile device has Internet, then your cloud services may not be setup correctly if it says router offline. This app DOES NOT connect directly to your router. It uses the cloud services so you can access your router from anywhere. If you don't understand this, return the router. You'll never make it work correctly.
UPDATE: This app was never meant to adjust specific times for parental controls. That is why you have only block or allow. Go to the web page from a desktop browser (or Safari on iPad - though it isn't as easy as a desktop PC) to adjust specific access times for a device or buy the $0.99 app that let's you do it from a mobile device.
Still cannot connect
I haven't been able to connect with this app for the past year it seems. There is only soo much that Cisco can blame the NSA for when it's Q3 sales plummeted, and poor quality services aren't on that list. My EA 6500 router works well, most of the time, but I bought it for the functionality of being able to access it from my iPhone and iPad. Neither of which is an option with this company.
Stop reaching for yield, and look to your customers.
This is a month after the below post, and I've yet to see a change in the functionality. I've seen crappy games that have better functionality than this app.
Have to say I agree with all the rest of those complaining. I think it's very poor form for Cisco to just drop the ball on its customers just because of the sale of the company. I purchased the 6500 explicitly for the smart wifi capabilities, but it does nothing of the sort. I cannot log in on my iPhone or iPad to see anything from the company apps. I'm thinking of looking into different routers, but I'm worried that other companies will be just as bad. This was my 3rd router in a yr; linksys 4200, linksys 4500, and finally linksys 6500.
Nice concept, but poor execution
This app could be really great, but the developers muffed it. Also, the interface to the EA4500 is way too simple. If Linksys is not going to support dd-wrt then at least they need to provide some major improvements to the firmware.
As far as the iPhone app goes, here is my biggest gripe: the parental controls allow viewing the time restrictions but they can't be changed. In a general sense, the firmware needs to provide a better interface for restricting times. As it is I cannot set restrictions later than 11:30 in the morning. What if I want to restrict for a certain hour during the afternoon? (Too bad, I can't)
It would be nice if I could set a temporary restriction to deny access (with both the iPhone app and the router interface). The app version could be something as simple as a switch. When turned on. All other restrictions would be overridden and access would be denied until turned off.
