Works good! Could use some extra features like...
Surprisingly this app went from not even functioning to being very usable! I use it all the time and never get crashes (from iPhone 5c)! THANK GOD FINALLY. This app has taken a long time to get there and it has a bunch of good features. It has LJ cuts and easy tags, the app it self is easy to use & to switch between your blog/ community blogs, as well as privacy setting. It only needs a few things to make it better: 1) make the app password/ pin protected again like it used to be. Most of us are writing about private stuff here, so let's go that extra mile to protect our privacy even further. 2) incorporate Mood & "listening to" fields. I paid extra money so that I could have awesome mood themes from supernatural and various shows. I also took a lot of time to upload these photos so if I could use that feature that would be great. Also putting what I'm listening to is a fun little extra that I've always enjoyed (although not as important). The last thing I recommend would be adding / managing your icons. All of these things are kinda essential features that have always made Livejournal fun & interesting. I feel that if they are added not only will more people use the app but I think a lot of dead livejournal communities would come back as well.
They really need to get up to date with their app. It has some basic features but you can't customize your post default, so to do a friends-only post, I have to set that each time. Another problem: no way to refresh user pics. I went on to the website (because you can't upload new pictures from the app) and changed out half my photos. The app won't update. It's been two days since I changed them. I've quit out of the app twice. I've restarted my phone. Nothing. So, half the user pics that show up when I write a new post are actually no longer associated with my account and the new ones aren't available to select.
Another annoying feature: in my feed, it now only shows the first few lines of a post and I have to click through to see the rest. I'm not sure why this is necessary. So many people have stopped using LJ over the years. In fact, nearly everyone on my F-list complains about how inactive their F-list is. I'm not sure why it would be necessary to reduce posts to previews. This encourages post-skipping since you have to go to a new screen to read them. This only further reduces an already decimated readership.
Honestly, the app works so poorly it's almost as if they're trying to kill the site. I keep trying to return to LJ after using FB and Tumblr, but the LJ team doesn't exactly make it easy.
Worse than it used to be
With last updates some useful features are gone. There used to be a setting session where you could set default privacy and other settings. Now privacy defaults to 'public' which is the least private option, why would a journal app do that? Another feature that is gone is offline mode. Now if you open the app when there's no network, it just hangs with a message 'searching for network'. I usually feel like writing my journal when I am at a quiet place, often off the grid. I an planning on closing my account and finding a better app.
