Like a long lost friend, returned! :-)

West coast crush

I was finally reunited with my long lost friend, but MAN, has it gotten WAY BETTER over time with the help of Radiant Labs!
Apps like this are very unique, particularly for those who truly appreciate all the beauty of space. I used to have one of those spinning earth apps. I bought it for ~ $45 back in … eh, well, very way back, like when I still used a windows machine, and yes, that far back. It app rotated, it showed countries, but that was about it, and I’m sure it probably still sits spinning in some cubicle somewhere, by someone who loves the 90’s.

Then, a wonderful app called xQuake came along on Mac - and I absolutely loved it. It had a spinning earth map, PLUS earthquake information and weather. I don’t remember it having a full screensaver but to watch it was spectacular … and then it was discontinued. :-(

Then, THIS app came along, and I've been struck with the visual appeal and simplicity of this app. The visual artistry, attention to detail, and software quality level that this app come together in this app in a fantastic visual treat and ease of use. A full nod to the people at Radiant Labs. You guys really did a fantastic job with this app. It’s limited, agreeably, but what works, works amazingly well, and that’s what separates good apps from great apps in my book.

Like I said, I finally found an old friend again and I’m very glad it’s available on the most beautiful displays in the world (mac screens). :-)

Developer Response

Wow, thanks for the awesome review! So happy you love the app.

Beautiful, but . . .

El Griff

There appears to be a glitch in its programming on both the iPhone and the Mac versions that makes it show a couple of triangular images just west of the Bering Sea that are clearly glitches but look kind of like ICBM vapor trails. This is the first time I have ever seen an image glitch in Living Earth.

Also, it would be nice if it incorporated into the Mac version the ability to take a screenshot. As it works now, any effort to take a screenshot makes it disappear and returns you to your normal screen. The iPhone version does allow one to take a screenshot of it because it is a standalone app on the phone and not a screensaver.

Other than the above, it’s a pretty good app, with the appearance of Earth on a big Apple display being simply dazzling.

Compelling screensaver and menu bar item

Wow…amazing on a 5K iMac screen. Great piece of program development. Kudos to developers. One suggestion for the screensaver part - I like the “explore your cities” option. Gives more variation to the rotation. However, either provide a way to vary the length of the pause over a certain city, or shorten the pause. Seems much too long right now.. Also, make movement from city to city consistent with location order on the panel (I have my panel ordered from east (starting near International Date Line) to west (ending at International Date Line). Doing so would eliminate the back/forth motion from city to city, providing a smoother orbital rotation sequence.
