With iOS 11 Apple released the "Files" app as the official file manager. However saving files locally on your device somehow is not possible - using some cloud service is your only option.

Local Storage attempts to fix this. After installation it provides a non-syncing storage space for files of any kind in "Files".

You can now also transfer files and folders via iTunes "File Sharing". Local Storage shows up here as an option to save into as well.

Local Storage provides some general infos and several beautiful visualisations for the files you saved into it.

Another useful thing that is included is a share extension to extract compressed archives: zip, tar and 7zip files.

Finally Local Storage comes with an action extension that allows you to hash any file, video or image using the CRC32, MD2, MD4, MD5, SHA1, SHA224, SHA256, SHA384 and SHA512 algorithms.

Local Storage is not a file manager - and doesn't want to be one. Apple's "Files" app is a very capable and stable solution for copying/moving/renaming/etc.

Had an issue before where on iOS 12 the folder with your files didn’t show up in “On My iPad” but the developer thankful fixed that quickly!

Developer Response

When no file has been saved to it iOS hides the app in Files. So this was not an error. However I introduced an invisible placeholder file in v1.4.0, so Local Storage always shows up now. Hopefully this curbs all those negative reviews lately.

Local storage is the best app!!

Local storage is the best app if you want to get out of iCloud ecosystem on iPad Pro and iPhone on iOS Devices and to take full control of my data

Creates a folder

App creates a folder where you can save files. iOS should have this built in but Apple was stupid and removed the functionality.

I’m rating this 3 stars because the app has three prominent “tip” buttons, and I accidentally sent the dev $15.
