Glycemic Index is a measure of the impact of a food on your blood sugar / glucose levels. The higher the index value, the more that food raises your blood sugar. Managing the GI of the foods you eat may be an important step in maintaining a healthy diet, especially for prediabetics and people on low carb diets.

With a few taps, you can search through thousands of foods, color-coded by high-, medium-, and low-GI ratings. Next, select a serving size based on common servings (or select by weight -- grams, ounces, or pounds). This will bring up a convenient view of each food's GI, glycemic load (a measure of the impact of your selected serving on blood sugar), net carbs (total carbs minus dietary fiber), and a macronutrient breakdown pie chart.

You can quickly 'log' this food as eaten. The food log feature allows you to see the average GI of all foods (a weighted average based on amount consumed), the total glycemic load of all the foods, total net carbs, total calories, and a macronutrient breakdown. Plus, quickly review the GI of each meal, plus see a sum total of the each meal's average GI and total GL.

A bit disappointed on nutrional tracking

I was pretty excited to download this app because I need something that tracks my GI and GL.. but at the same time I really need to be able to track my fat intake due to a medical condition- sever pancreatitis and insulin problem caused by it. I was hoping this app would do both for me.. but all it does is show fat and protein in chart.. not in grams or totals. The GI/GL tracker is good - however I'm ending up using two apps for complete nutrient detail. If anyone knows of one that has the best of both worlds.. please let me know. I am currently using this app with "splet"- which I like except I can't get complete GI/GL info on that app- just carb counting which is helpful and the "splet doesn't let me have a detail history of each day.. just the day. This app is great from history and looking up info for previous day ect. So I give this a 3 only becuase it doesn't list total carbs, fats and other important nutrient details like calcium., vitamins etc.

Indispensable tool for diabetics and anyone losing weight

This program is a terrific tool to aid in weight loss. Being able to track glycemic index and glycemic load is essential for those trying manage blood sugar. I track everything I consume in this app.

Yes, there are a number of features I'd like to see added. The ability to copy and paste a prior meal would save time when you have the same lunch three days in a row. Also, I'd love to see the data stored on the cloud so that I could use my iPhone instead of my iPad when I'm out at a restaurant. It would also help if more detail was provided on each food item consumed like calories, carbs and glycemic load in the daily food log. Hopefully those features will come in version 2.0.

I cannot believe they charge for this. The scrolling search is ridiculous and not in any order that makes sense. I scroll up and down several times because I never know if the item could possibly be randomly listed. How can MyFitnessPal maintain such a large data base of foods for free yet this app that was developed years ago doesn't and charges for it? I'm not even sure if the formula for glycemic load is correct because according to the explanation, they divide the glycemic index by serving size times 100 and that is not correct; it's supposed to be GI / net carbs x 100. Not sure if they have a bad technical writer or if it's really being done wrong. I haven't bothered to even check because this app is a big disappointment and after having it one day, I know I won't be using it. I wish I could get a refund and advise you not to fall for this app.
