Ratings and Reviews
***Update to Original Review****
As mentioned below, you can not use Luminar as a plugin if you purchase from the App Store. I contacted customer service and they were extremely quick to resolve the issue by provding me the version of the applcation that will allow the use of a plugin. VERY Quick customer service (thank you Julia). As stated below, the software is great and I cannot wait to try out all of the features.
I like the application but please be advised that if you purchase the application through the App Store, you will loose the ability to install Luminar 2018 as a plug-in for Lightroom, Photshop etc. You can only install the plug-in if you purchase from the MacPhun site. Wouldn’t normally be a big deal however, since a library or catalog option is not available in Luminar (yet) you have to export the photos then open them in Luminar then reimport them into Lightroom. Can be a bit frustrating doing this over and over again. Not cool. I only wish I knew this before I purchased the software through the App Store.
On the positive side, the application does what it says and does it beautifully! I like all the presets and the LUTs features (I am new to LUTs) have to offter to bring my photo processing to the next level.
Crippled Version-Should be labeled Trialware
DO NOT BUY THIS FROM APP STORE!
I cannot believe that this is being sold as a complete solution. IT CANNOT ACCEPT PLUGINS! How can a serious user be expected to export photos from Photo or Aperture, import into Luminar, then re-export/import into photo manager? With 14,000 plus photos, there is no way this is usable without the plugins that are described in Help. Turns out that they are onlly available if you have the program purchased from Skylum’s website.
"While Luminar is a full featured stand-alone application, some users also choose to install and run it as a plug-in for other popular photo editing software. If you installed after downloading from our website, you should be prompted to install the plug-ins for detected software you already have installed.” That “Help" does not apply to this version.
For serious users, this is at most “trial ware” for the workflow usable version on developer’s website—Oh, for an additional $69.
This version is a rip-off, and I blame Apple almost as much as developer. They should demand clear warnings that such versions are incomplete vs developer site versions.
If I could get a refund, I would, but….
Hi there! Please note that due to the App Store restrictions, all the apps that are available here can't be used in a plug-in mode. If you want to use Luminar 2018 in a plug-in mode, drop us a message at email@example.com and we will gladly assist you. Thanks!
Lots of filters. Somewhat slow.
In the beginning, I was excited to use this app because of the amount of filters included. Especially the “sunrays” filter, it’s really amazing. However, when I try to use the most common filters, the application process is a bit slow. There’s always the “Image processing” pop-up displayed. (Note: I do have an iMac Pro, 4Ghz, with 32Gb RAM, and I use Photoshop and Lightroom with no issues). In addition, I can't use the “option” key when selecting the shadows and higlights to avoid clipping, eventhough I saw a video online where you could, just like in Adobe Lightroom.
I purchase this App with the idea of replacing Adobe Lightroom.
Although this app has a lot of great features, I’m going to hold on to Lightroom. Hope that updates in the future will encourage me to switch.
I e-mailed MacPhun with the “options” key issue, and all I got was an automated e-mail reply instructing me to research their website. I did the research with no answer.
I will give MacPhun customer care a one star.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! Could you please be more specific regarding the filters that seem to be slow? Does it happen with all images or particular ones? Make sure you're using the latest version of the app. Every single question we receive gets answered within 24 hours. Would you be so kind to re-send your request to firstname.lastname@example.org? Thank you in advance.
