Long ago, a great Dragonmaster named Dyne, with the aid of his faithful companions, defended the goddess Althena from a terrible evil. Time has passed, and those great adventurers have become the stuff of legend, but the world of Lunar is now threatened by a shadowy figure known as the Magic Emperor. In a humble village, far removed from the turmoil, lives a young man named Alex. Idolizing the legendary Dyne, Alex dreams of one day becoming a renowned Dragonmaster and matching the achievements of his lifelong hero. Encouraged by his childhood friend Ramus, Alex sets out with his companion Nall and his adopted sister Luna on a seemingly trivial quest, unaware that it would prove to be the first step in an epic adventure whose outcome will determine the fate of the entire world.

FIX: An incorrect subtitle
...Okay to clarify people saying there are glitches aren't getting used to the controls which are touchy being touch screen ..obviously and some other aspects which you will get used to right away... I'm running on the latest iOS on iPhone 6 so can't say for older phones or memory differences etc..But on to the review, Very awesome port ... I remember playing this game when I was 14 years old on my PSX ... Brings back memories of sitting in my room after school eating junk food and being glued to the game for hours lol. I did purchase the PSP version/remake of this game when it came out and wasn't that impressed ... Maybe because I'm stuck on the original and original voices and animation and everything ... But this is well done for sure!! Got me FF7 before I downloaded this and I've been glued to this one since ... Don't get me wrong I love FF too but Lunar ... Now they just need to port Eternal Blue ;)~ c
Lunar was my first RPG game and it's been an all time favorite. I have every single remake of the game. This one is by far the worst.
I was extremely optimistic when I read the specs of the game and all the other reviews. Most of them talked about how beautiful the game looks and how easy it is to play. I found it none of those things.
The game looks ugly, which I find odd since the PSP version was gorgeous and I figured this version was just that game but tuned to allow for touch commands.
As for gameplay, it's terrible. I can't get the characters to move right and at the beginning of the game that is such a crucial thing.
At the very first dungeon you're not strong enough to take every single monster and sometimes you can bypass them by just going around. I can't do that at all right with these controls. You might say that's not that big of a problem, but...
At the first dungeon you also have the monkeys that break the ice for you. Because I can't control the characters correctly I keep getting into fights with those monkeys, and I'm not allowed to run away most of the time. So I'm forced to kill them. So then I have to leave the room and come back in to try again. But it keeps happening. I got so frustrated that I gave up playing.
You have no idea how much I wish this touch version was good. But instead it's just disappointing.
The best RPG ever... now on a phone!
Although a phone is not the ideal way to play this game (seriously, go get the PSX version and its sequel), it translates pretty well.
There are a few basic flaws native to phone games, like less than stellar controls, but the game retains its charm and excellent localization by Working Designs. It is unfortunate that SoMoGa went with the PSP remake Silver Star Harmony's voice actors during the cutscenes, as I find the originals much more charming and fun, but that is in no way a dealbreaker.
If you are at all a fan of RPGs, or great writing and characterization in general, then you owe it to yourself to play the best RPG of all time (with Lunar 2 in a very close second place).
