“Lyft is a real community — with both the drivers and riders being inherently social — making real friendships and saving money.” - Time
"In a city where taxis can be scarce and… black town cars are rampant but expensive, Lyft has quickly gained visibility due to low prices and quirky branding." - Ad Age
"Lyft's focus on the everyman has recently extended to the wildly successful Lyft Line carpool service aimed at commuters, which offers discounts of 30% to 60% for sharing a Lyft ride with others." - Fast Company
For Lyft drivers, continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

$20 coupon: LYFT468
First of all, if you haven’t taken a ride yet make sure you use the coupon LYFT468 to get $20 off your first ride! Enter it right before you request a ride in the Payment tab under Add Payment Method. Might as well try it out since it probably won't cost you a thing!!
The app is easy to use and intuitive, giving you important info like the driver’s face, phone number, and car make/model. It’s amazing how quick and seamless the entire process is. A car comes to your door within minutes of pressing a button! The drivers are real people, they are very polite and their cars are clean! Some even come with complimentary water and candy! Even if you want to charge your phone, a lot of drivers have car chargers at your ready! With the new Lyft Line it’s cheaper than ever. After all this, I don’t see why you would ever use a cab again.
The customer support is also fantastic. I got overcharged on one of my trips and I didn’t have to say anything more than a comment on my driver feedback to get a refund. I’m very happy and I hope Lyft continues to exceed my expectations in not only the app but customer service! I also prefer Lyft much more than other competitors, mainly because they have so much more supply and cars are always just a few minutes away, and price is usually the cheapest.
Overall you should definitely give it a try, especially with the $20 off coupon I gave you!
Lyft VS Uber
I've used both Lyft & Uber. There was a period of time where I was hanging out downtown (Los Angeles) a lot so it's safe to say I was using both Lyft and Uber frequently. I started noticing that more than half the time I got a ride the driver had both Lyft and Uber decals displayed in the car. So I decided to put my drunken rides to use and conduct a social experiment. I started asking those drivers which company they preferred driving for (since honestly I there is no difference in ride quality between the two)... The conclusion was 99% of the time the driver told me he preferred Lyft over Uber. Explaining that Lyft treated their drivers better. I got the sense that Lyft is a better company overall. I feel like Uber as a company is shady and does anything to climb to the top regardless of the human beings that drive for them or ride with them. They all about the dollar, Lyft is all about the service.
Price for trips not clearly stated
I used Lyft a few times for trips around Hollywood. Each time I used it, the total trip cost came out to be ~$24 (for less than 10 miles). I wish the estimated trip cost could be displayed before I accept a ride so that I know what I'm agreeing to pay for (the estimated cost calculator online always estimated $10-16 for my trips. I did not use Lyft during busy times, so I don't understand where the extra $10 is consistently coming from).
Also, there are many exceptions to the discounts I tried to use. Again, I wasn't aware of these until after the trip was charged to my account (they aren't displayed on the app or online). I contacted customer service and have yet to see my discount honored.
I will give 2 stars for being picked up on time from the drivers. I never had to wait more than 10 min for someone to arrive.
