What's New in Version 2.1
iOS 5 support
Love the Articles...
...More, and Activity. Otherwise, hate the app. Crashes frequently. Comments is currently a waste of space. If the balloon shows comments left and you click on it, most of the time you get "no comments". And when you do see a user list with comments, selecting a user brings up this awesome transparent window where a comment should be, but somehow all you can see for sure is the sections homepage - where the title bar now says "Comments."
An explanation of how to navigate the app would certainly be useful. I accidentally stumbled upon the "Activity" function. If users don't know what I'm talking about, go to the homepage and, similar to the new OS 5 Notification function, push up from the toolbar between Apps and iPhone and you can review your favorites and comments you've made (well, maybe they'll show up).
Finally, you should add Feedback functionality inside the app, so you don't have people like me taking up all this space for a mediocre review.
Last Update Ruined A Good Thing
Loved the app until the last major update. Sure it looks nicer and has new features--which I never use because the core of the app has been screwed up.
App now takes forever to load new articles, which is unacceptable since that's 90% of what the app is sopposed to do in the first place. I've sat waiting as long as 10-minutes for the days top stories to load, only to give up and use another (non-Apple centric) app for the latest apple news. Example: todays Saturday, I've tried downloading new content 3 to 4 times each day and the most recent listings are from Wednesday with 1 Thursday story mis-sorted in-between the Tuesday articles. I'm on vacation and don't have dedicated Wifi to check the website, but now that I'm home, I see there are 14 stories I missed and all the app does is claim to be downloading, but the stories never came. Ironically, the ads always seem to download quickly and accurately.
Seems like all the energy is going to their subscription and paid services and those of us who use the free service are bring played for fools.
In a nutshell, don't bother, slashgear has a better product, their stories are more current and many times, they even have Apple related stories that never show up on Mac Life's app.
For a magazine and app that essentially professes to eat, sleep, breath and live Apple why can't you make an app that doesn't crash. I enjoy the information, but I'm almost to the point of deleting it because of having to constantly restart the app multiple times. According to other reviews, I'm not the only one with the same complaint.
A question for Apple. How can you allow this to continue? By allowing this app to be down loaded from your site you are supporting a faulty product that endorses you.
