This is my second time owning the game (long story) and I still love it! It makes the most logical sense out of any point and click I've played. I also love the art work, story, and puzzles. One thing that is unique from other big fish games is that in this there is actually a point in finding several objects. In others it would give you a word list of objects to find in the area and only one of which you keep. In this you get to assemble the object and it shows you a picture of each part so you know what they're talking about (ex. In one game Scotch meant tape but they didn't list it as Scotch tape just Scotch). The way they incorporate hints in this game is also very interesting and ties in with the story very well. The way they make the player able to imagine themselves as the character is great too and the soundtrack is amazing. I wish I didn't have to wait for the sequel but I will if waiting will making it as beautiful and intriguing as this game.
Macabre Mysteries: Nightengale
I can't understand how this game got so many positive reviews! I really WANTED to like this game. The storyline and graphics were great, although sometimes the objects were difficult to find. Unfortunately there are far more negatives than the two good things I can say about this one. It got very boring, very fast. There is absolutely NO variety in any of the puzzles. The "mini games" were all the same thing, just with different pictures. The hidden object scenes are all the type where you have to look for fragments to put a needed object together. Every one. It became annoyingly monotonous. The "hint" button was NOT helpful. Couple that with the completely useless map and I found myself having to use the walk through cheat often since the game is not at all intuitive. Don't waste your money on this one, not worth it.
Impossibly small on iPhone
I am a big fan of Big Fish's hidden object games, and I have played every one of the ones available for iPhone. This is one of the very few I will not be paying to unlock, and in fact I will be deleting it as soon as I write this review. As others have written, objects and font are so tiny that gameplay is impossible on iPhone. Zoom is available only within the hidden object segments; outside of those segments, it is impossible to see any of the objects one is supposed to tap, and unlike many other games, these items are not differentiated from the background by a sparkling light. Also, within the hidden object segments, one is not searching for objects per se, but for broken up pieces of objects. That said, I am grateful to Big Fish for giving users the ability to try before we buy all of its games.
