Frustrating

This game had so much potential and got great reviews across the board. It goes to show just like Jonathan Blow's Braid, you can make a beautiful & original game with great music, but if you aren't in the developers' head, many times you are not gonna know what they want. You have to be in a certain spot and doing a movement to precision. Many times I knew what I wanted to do but the controls were so touchy (eg: throwing those stupid pellets on the ground). Also you have to hit a star to see your inventory which is sooooo annoying. Why can't the inventory just always be on the screen? I enjoy challenging games but I also don't like the feeling that the game was really made for the developers b/c only they know how they want that puzzle answered in a specific way. You know there's an issue if when I get the walkthrough and realize I never would have come to that conclusion on my own. Yes they have a hint and yes they have a walkthrough, but what's the point of a game if I keep having to turn to those things? That's no fun. Overall, all the positive aspects of the game are lost because of the frustrating elements that make it no fun to play. It's too bad really. I'm uninstalling.

Enjoyable Point and Click Adventure

Machinarium is, in many ways, your standard point-and-click adventure game reminiscent of Monkey Island. What sets it apart is it's beautiful graphics and immersive soundtrack. While there is no dialogue in the game, the characters abound with expression and personality and the game tells and impressive amount of story through them.

Controls are fairly intuitive, and if you are familiar with the genre, the majority of puzzles are not frustrating. If you do find yourself stuck, there is a hints book included in-game. You play a mini-game each time to unlock the book, which will provide hints in picture form. Absolutely DO NOT pay money for any of the "guides" on the App Store.

I highly recommend playing this on a tablet; it fits the form more intuitively than a PC.

Good game

I have to say, as frustrating as it gets sometimes to get passed parts, it's overall fun. I played it a little while on pc, but I couldn't get into it because when I'm on my pc, I wanna play a high-spec game or simulation, but to see this game transformed into a pocket edition was great. This is exactly the kid of game I like to play when I just want something to fill my time.

Unfortunately, as someone commented before stated, there are some puzzles inside the game that are impossible to guess without a hint or walkthrough. It's one thing to not know where to go next, but if you have the idea and u try it out in one area of the map, and it doesn't work, then u tend to give up on that idea, which is what I did when I got to the bullets on the floor. I think that the hints could be a little more than they are already, without giving away the actual solution.

Otherwise, it's awesome! The graphics drew me in, and the background music is cool. I still haven't beat it, but I hope that the end of the story will do justice for all the great aspects of the game prior to the end.

I hope this company will produce more games like this for iOS, because the App Store is lacking in the quality department..

Outstanding job!!
