Description

Welcome to your Magnificat App!

Presented in a day-by-day format, the MAGNIFICAT App includes: morning, evening, and night prayers inspired by the Liturgy of the Hours; readings and prayers of each daily Mass; daily meditations drawn from the best writings of the Church Fathers as well as recent spiritual masters; and essays on the lives of the saints from yesterday and today.

The App is free for subscribers to the printed version of the USA edition.
Otherwise, it is free from the day you install the App, until the end of the month, then buy each month for $1.99

In addition, through the Calendar menu you can find: a monthly editorial, several articles and you can buy current and futur month.

We wish you prayerful moments using this one-of-a kind application, developed with your prayer life in mind.

Liturgical source: United States Conference of Catholic Bishops & ICEL.

This App also exists in French and in Spanish.

Best daily devotional app

If one is familiar with the printed version of the Magnificat, they will find the app is more functional with a simple interface. Need larger print, flip the phone horizontally. Want to pray from a page with out the back button, tap the center of the screen, do the same to bring that back button and links along the bottom back. The app makes it easier to flip back to other parts with direct links, e.g. morning prayer directs one to pray the canticle of Zechariah; tap the link, pray, then tap the center of the screen and the back button will reappear. I suspect some of the poor reviews relate to misunderstanding of how the app works. There is a tutorial under the settings which explains even more than I covered here. If you have had Magnificat in the past, I would encourage you to give it another try. The best part, their customer service will guide one through any issues that may arise. B

100% Worth the Subscription

This subscription contains for every day a breviary (Divine Office) suitable for both religious and laity (morning, evening, and night prayer), a Mass missal, daily Lectio Divina, lives of the saints, a monthly art appreciation, and monthly hymns and excellent editorials. All of these things take just 5 minutes, or more with meditation. Whether you want to use a couple for morning and evening prayer, or utilize all by taking a few times several times a day, all laity and religious can benefit from a subscription to Magnificat. Very loyal to the Magisterium, reverent, and the themes are applicable to current events (such as prayer intentions for political candidates during election year and on July 4, etc.).

Pros:
- Seamlessly go back and forth from the printed version to the app.
- The entire month downloads at once so you don't need to rely on being near wifi/phone signal.
- All the editorials are in the app, as well as RECORDINGS of the monthly hymns.
- My husband likes to read on the app while I read in the book, so we can pray together.
- Our whole family enjoys the different Grace Before and After Meals prayers that come out each month.

Con:
- The words are black and red on a cream background. For night viewing we would like gray words on a black background.

Short of features

It is good for daily reading and mass. But it has many fatal glitches.
1. It does NOT recognize any HotSpot WiFi devices such as FreedomPop and warns you of not connected to the Internet so it cannot download (?)
2. For major feasts such as Christmas, Easter, especially Vigil ones (long text) it cannot be magnify nor stay for more than 15 SECONDS, it will completely quits and closes and exits to the main Apple screen. Never fails.
This is the SECOND year in a row. In 2015 I reported it and expected a fix, this year is the same.
Very disappointed.
